  1. If my calculations are correct (edited to correct my error, thanks to replies), jumping from that height would result in hitting the water at over 18 meters per second or over 40 miles per hour.

    v = sqrt( 2 * g * h )

  2. That 'controlled' jump with life vest inflated was WORSE than no life vest, how ridiculous that so called 'trained' people would endorse it with the impact it has on the head, insane!

  3. I also watch Motor Yacht Loon's youtube channel and I can see how close the crew must bond while working together. I can't imagine how somber the rest of that journey must have been, and then trying to act like nothing happened during the next charter..RIP

  4. Guys and Gals, Our Bodies Are Sooooo Fragile!!! We Must be Aware of All Possibilities involved in daily life. Things can happen so fast. One moment someone's driving down the street and Sneezes next moment (maybe one second) same car is up on the Sidewalk and in that second hits you and four (4) others, killing three (3). Fragile, that's what you are is, Fragile… Good Luck, Drive Careful and Watch Out for Drunks. Why you say? Because, They're Not Watching Out for You!!!

  5. You can teach safety you can preach safety. But inadvertently someone draws the joker in the game of life. Ive seen it land, sea, and air. You just never know when its your day. If we did we'd miss out on a lot of living. But sometimes you need to ask yourself, is this really worth the risk?

  6. Very Sad News indeed ive never heard of this type of behaviour before, probably because ive never served on a super Yacht i guess. Condolences to the family & friends.❤

  7. 8:53 IMO is Lürssen S/Y "ACE" (refitted 🤔)!!!

I prefer it now…w/out that arched staircase that connected three bridges 🤷🏻‍♂️, less particular but w/ a simpler and more linear shape 🤩!!!!!!

  8. Hitting the water at 40, to 45 MPH = humans are fragile, he probably broke his back/neck.
Expect the rest of the crew to get sick in 6 months time due to the trauma of seeing their crewmate die. The human psyche is fragile too.
Believing you're immortal = toxic masculinity.

  9. A jump into the water from 55 feet is not that big of deal as long as you have plenty of water to land into (sufficient water depth) and certain amount of common sense is used during the dive. Can you get hurt or be killed sure you can but you can slip and fall in the bathroom or anywhere else and be hurt or killed. It was an unfortunate accident and accidents happen. As for our esteemed video presenter and everyone else in the comments yapping about how dangerous this dive is you all need to take a piece of advice from Jimmy Buffet and that is “I rather die when I am living than live when I am dead” in others take some chances and enjoy yourself because we only have a short time on this planet so enjoy it.

  10. I worked in the mining industry and the off shore industry for 20 years. This type of death should not be allowed. Just because you are rich or are working in a boutique industry doesn’t make it ok.

  11. The biggest mistake in this case was the guy trying to be an acrobat. Folks don't let the nanny brigade stop you having fun but DO make sure you how you are going to jump and what you are jumping in to. Back in the day I dived into Currumbin Creek ( Gold Coast) , crushed C2 and C3 and was within a hairsbreadth of being a quadriplegic . Fifty years later I am still going strong but my diving days are now over. Stay aware and stay safe.

  12. Feel sorry for this guy and his family. However, the yachts management has a lot to answer for to allow this to happen in the first place. If a guest wants to take this risk, that's one thing, but the management has a responsibility for its staff at all times when on the yacht. 😢😢

  13. The celebrities you showed were clearly not jumping from 17 m, but from a normal perhaps 5 m height. Also, the thing that killed him was not the tombstoning, but the fact that he wasn't tombstoning but tried a more sophisticated jump from 17 m.

  14. THe most important thing is not mentioned which is that water can be hard as stone when hit from heights with speed. Falling flat in the water from as little as 15 metres could be lethal; already, and will be lethal from 27 metres as The Myth Busters once discovered.

  15. +25m is when water is like concrete. Inside organ’s can’t TaKe the hit. Just like car collision with out Seat belt 😢

  16. If you land flat on the water, it can knock the breath out of you causing your diaphragm to spasm and disorientation under the water can cause you to inhale water in panic. On a seperate note, my stepfather told me that someone dived off a lighthouse nr Fraserburgh when he was young and it stripped the skin back from his nails on entry (Ouch!!!). The higher you jump from , the more like hitting concrete it becomes. I used to work at a swimming pool and we were terrors for doing those sorts of things. The problem is when the 'unexperienced' try to copy you! Those with 'a couple of drinks' inside them on a sunday afternoon were worst.

  17. From the description, it sounds like it was going be that he hit the safety boat. But he wasn't really "tombstoning". He was doing a backflip which probably put his neck in a vulnerable position and it caused a spinal injury. One of those freak accidents that happen all the time.
Stuff happens IRL, you can't "safety" them all away.

  18. I mistakenly thought, like the jumper, that water was relatively soft and harmless. I never fully appreciated the amount of force that’s exerted on the body if you enter the water at an angle that doesn’t displace water efficiently. Unlike the first jumper, the second jumper did an uncontrolled backflip. This is the kind of stupid shit I would do, so good to learn something today. I suppose in one small way this person didn’t die in vain.

  19. Jumping from 17m you need to be careful how you enter into the water, similarly you need to be really careful if you're jumping into water that there's enough water there for you to not hit the bottom. If you're doing backflips you really need to know what you're doing to make sure you enter the water properly. The point is that jumping into the deep water was not in itself unsafe – what was unsafe was how the crew member did it and they were injured because they entered the water badly. The US Navy has been having swimcalls and hundreds of sailors have jumped from the decks of aircraft carriers, similarly during the Piper alpha fire crew jumped from the main platform to escape and survived.
Serious or fatal injuries can occur crossing the road – do it carefully.

  20. Jumping from a yacht is a horrible way to die. Condolences to the crewmember's family and I hope it doesn't happen again. Thank you very much for warning folk.
