👍👍🤙🤙
Oh man so excited to watch this later, I've been following you since your early days in your Contessa, always love seeing new stuff you share. All the best to you!!
Another gem. Thank you.
congratulations mate epic
Loved it Nick. 👌
The purity of your choices says it all.
That’s about as good as it gets Nick. I’d like to put a link to your channel in the description of my latest video. Is that ok?
Great passage Nick,i look forward to your next adventure.
Who ia. Not Hugh ia.
Great video, well done doing it solo in an open boat. It brings back memories of a similar trip I did from Melbourne to Flinders island in a Tophat 25. We spent 5 days hunkered down in winter cove waiting for better weather while getting slammed by wind bullets that rush down the surrounding hills. Still Deal island was my highlight as you can explore the whole island on foot.
What a beautiful vid….!…..just one quick question…if you were going to do this trip again, what other stuff would you take, or do differently …??
Pronounced a Who-ee- ah, the iconic extinct NZ forest bird.
Nice one mate, great adventure!
Nice journey and cool boat, is it a coutta?
Well done! Great presentation! You might be interested to know that a friend of mine, David, his father, Mike and his ex, Anastasia did the same journey some 20 years or so ago in a very similar boat to yours.
From memory, theirs is 25'. It was not an uneventful voyage, to say the least but they did have the "luxury" of three on board, which you clearly don't. The boat that the sailed is called Pelican and is currently moored at Port Cygnet.
David was a boat builder for some time but now divides his time between operating a barge on a fish farm and taking tours on a vessel called Kerrawyn, that he and Anastasia co-own and operate from Franklin. Anastasia ultimately gained her captain's ticket and has captained a number of tall ships on some fairly impressive voyages.
They are both very approachable genuine people. I don't think that they've missed a wooden boat show since they've been down there. Keep your eye out for them, they have a wealth of knowledge between them that would prove invaluable to you. Good luck with your adventures!
👍
Great stuff, I also have an old couda boat. She is 25ft but with a cab.
Yes 14 days out of 88 years is about the passage of time.
So loved this video, a real adventure. Well done.
Mate, people get killed doing that crossing in million dollar yachts, what an amazing adventure bloody brilliant!
I'm sure you had some periods of guilt and aprehension, taking on risks and time away with a young family at home, but life is made for such adventures and so much more real on a beautiful old open decker than a new boat. Thanks for providing the opportunity for us to live vicariously through you. I'll dip the ensign next time we pass.
I've been through Bass Straight 7 times and personally I think you're insanely selfish to attempt this in a small open boat and damn lucky you didn't get caught in a storm.
I feel sorry for your wife, your new born child and anyone who ever has to risk their life to rescue you from your own selfish stupidity!
Living my dream mate. Actually done similar sort of things on the Mozambique coast. Kids all grew up fine despite/because of all that. So did I actually.
well done
nicely done!
Thank you for sharing the journey.
Is the bowsprit meant to be curved down, or did that happen by the tension of the chain to the bow over the years?
love it…on ya mate
What a beautiful boat.
Since a child I've always loved the couta boats, especially the big 26 footer. She's a lovely boat and I'm sure you'll be sailing for many more years hopefully you still have her for her 100th. Is there a chance we might see you at the wooden boat festival with this lovely boat?
A very sentimental crossing.
Well done – and thanks
I would like to hear a marine rescue professionals opinion of this venture.
No boom tent?
Loved this. Hope to see more.
Absolutely amazing adventure. Wow that was hardcore sailing. 👍nicely narrated as well.
