Ohhhh man! We haven't been this giddy about sharing a new video with you in a loooong time🥳We hope you enjoy Part 1 of our trip to Australia as we begin to explore what the evolution of this project might be…If you're on the edge of your seat and can't wait for part 2, consider joining our inner tribe on Patreon! Our Patrons get to watch all our videos a week early with no ads, plus we've got lots of exclusive content & juicy details in there of what's on the horizon for us and Delos 2.0! Visit http://patreon.com/svdelos to learn more 😎

  2. Having a Cat that can be beached is what yuuz guyz need……….. You also don't need to be there during the initial build either. That part can be done with Star Link. I figure the placement of the sub-systems is more importanter 😁and seeing the water maker installed, engine placement, solar installation , battery setup, wiring diagrams ,etc. is worthy of your complete attention.
Plucky is having a ball with his build in al-u-min-ium in Vietnam , Riley and Elayna just splashed their Tri, Uma is in a refit , Ran 2 is an interesting build, Ruby Rose and Arabella recently splashed, Tally Ho and Yaba and others are getting close to completion.
My point is that there are plenty of "Build It" video's out there but watching the sub-systems go in provides a wealth of information that is not common knowledge to us not in the community but provides us with insight not usually found elsewhere………… enjoy
    ps.- Luv yuuz guyz …………

  3. What an amazing choice for SV Delos 2.0. Can’t wait for the finished product and next adventures. Surely another decade of entertainment 👍👍. 🇨🇦

  4. The biggest question is what happens if you guys start building and loose the passion for building?
It’ll be a huge project and a very different life than you’re all used to

  5. The time involved is going to change your lives and to a greater extent your enthusiasm for a return to your present lifestyle.
The time building the boat will need interchange with sailing Delos on short term excursions so keep the flame burning.
As Sierra grows her landlubber legs her needs and wants will change and a return to her boat life could be difficult but she will not develop into a full grown human being stuck on a boat for her formative years so change must occur if only for that reason.
I wish you all the best for this momentous decision and only you know what that needs to be .I have learned in my 76 years that nothing stays the same and sometimes you just have to close that chapter in your book of life.

  6. WOW! very exciting and one of the best Delos videos I've watched. And I watch them all of course. Thank you for sharing this. Best, Jeff

  7. The idea is great but you need to hire plenty of help or plan to spend half of a decade not sailing and working ridiculous hours. It could be an incredibly rewarding experience or a soul crushing disaster. Like others have suggested doing what Plukky is doing is much more feasible and gets you back sailing faster. Maybe find a yard that would allow you to be more hands on. I have zero doubt you two could do it yourselves but at what personal cost. Any way you go I’ll be here following along.

  8. My dad has been a metal fabricator since christ was a carpenter. Grew up with a shop in the backyard equipped with everything, including a tig wielder. I can't see this taking less than 2 years of wielding.

  9. Are you going to build your boat in Sweden at Mormor's home? She will be happy. It seemd like she had some property up there. But the weather up their in the high latitudes might not allow you sufficient time to build. Maybe build a tent-type hangar.

  10. Being nervous is good, it makes us question ourselves.
Being afraid is not, it prevents us from doing things.
If your confident and nervous, you usually will come out ok.

  11. Perhaps you should discuss with Ruby Rose 2 their trials of shifting from a monohull to a large cat. A couple of the sailing channels have had new cats built. They have large living areas, but are they that good in a heavy sea, like a monohull?

  12. Hmm, what I'm seeing from the video gives me the impression that it is about 75% of the optimal size for you guys. Are you sure you don't want it some bigger?

  13. The entire possibility of current leaks depleting your alu hull scares the bejesus out of me and would prevent me from touching them. I am sure you are taking this and a million other factors into consideration for your new build. Best of luck Delos !!

  14. A huge fan from the start but this…..Now way this will work i’m sorry – i would say 10 years in total including all the stress.

  15. I recently followed the building of this couple's new carbon fiber ship on their channel, hanging on every design choice and decision they made until they finally launched, and so every time I'd come back to see a new Delos episode I'd wish for you guys to also get a newer ship. Well … looks like I got my wish. I had no idea this was an ongoing project already in the works.
I actually didn't know you could make a boat out of aluminum metal, which because of my ignorance on the subject made my immediatly intuitively worry. I imagine there are diametrically different reasons for either preferring one over the other, but from my unknowledgeable perspective I would think a material with inherent buoyancy even if broken to bits, would be my preference. The one thought that comes to mind is that composites might be more flexible and tend more to bounce off a reef for example, while aluminum makes me think it would easily dent or crunch up. What I don't know is if it is a lot lighter or a lot heavier proportionate to the material's strength. Very curious to understand why boats are still built with such a wide range of material properties. Can you tell us why you choose aluminum and what are the differences with carbon fiber or fiberglass and metal, and what are the strengths aluminum has which make you prefer it over other materials?

  16. If I was a betting man I'd say perhaps we just had our first look at the new Delos II. Makes sense…their Delos 2.0 video was produced in 2018, it was a first in class boat (i.e. lots of build time) 6 years build time and meets almost all Brian's and Karins specifications. Hmmmm????

  17. I don't see why he would give you the technology for free!!!??? You just have to pay for it! He is not a slave to you to give you super tech for free!!! It's absurd! Tomorrow you will sell his technology for all I know you! Do not agree in any case! Only for a fee and a legally protected license!!!

  18. Been with you since near the beginning. I have been wondering when this was going happen, it sounds like the time is near. I am not a sailor, but I have some fabrication experience. I like the hull, I think you should absolutely take some formal classes and get certified as a welder. I would prefer TIG for this project. I think getting formal training in welding will get you a foundation on basic metallurgy, which will give you some confidence when you get rolling for real.
I bought a bunch of books and taught myself to stick weld as a kid, then took some local classes to learn MIG and TIG. The formal training helped, and I still learn over 40 years later.
Just my opinion, but I would think you and Kaza assisting a shop like you visited in building the hull would be the best route. Just ordering up the materials and buying the tools and going for it alone is a huge mountain to climb. You will learn quickly, but your family is gonna live on this boat, the tolerance for a bad weld here and there on a project like this is very, very low.
I am sure you are way ahead of me in this thinking, but wanted to share my thoughts.
I look forward to following your journey for many more years.
