Hey that's us in the intro!
Fresh haircut!
Hi Alberto, we love your channel and valuable information. Could you share how we can follow you on Twitter? Thanks so much! ( enthusiastic Dad who's daughter is into Opti sailing/ FL)
Man, have the Ronstan analog. Is it only a 10 min timer ? I can’t get it to 5 min countdown then to the rewind “back” like it does with 10 min…. Sadly, it doesn’t chime … hard to read… any help/pointers greatly appreciated. Thanks
How did the old school watch hold up after awhile?
How to fit a sailing watch on a wrist of a 6 yo. kid (no long neopren sleeves in the summer)?
The ClearStart is by far the best with the Sync function. After using sync so many times from failing to hear or start the first horn, it has become a necessary function IMO. However, the integrated band version is very crappy. Mine got brittle after 3-5years and broke apart, so now I need a whole new watch. So get a ClearStart, but NOT with the integrated plastic band.
Get a Ronstan Clearstart. The feature set has everything you need to race and it’s cheap. It has 10, 5 and 1 minute countdown with beeps every ten seconds in the final minute plus beeps every second for the last five seconds. It also has a user set for pursuit starts, up to 59 minutes and 59 seconds. It has a sync reset button in case you were late setting the gun. There are now four different versions but the analogue quartz only does five minute countdown.
My only reservations are that the 4055 model uses an integrated strap that can eventually break, resulting in the potential loss of the watch. The other is that the buttons can be quite hard to push on the 4054 and 4055 models and my 4055 eventually failed.
The 4054 I now have has a 20mm lug width and I strongly recommend that anyone considering a watch buy this model. The reason is that you can put a Zulu or NATO strap on it (stupidly comfortable, by the way) so that if a spring bar breaks you don’t lose your watch.
Ronstan is an Australian company. Buy one. It’s a no-nonsense watch.
