1. I bought an ‘82 J29 for $4000……10 yrs ago. Put about $12,000 into her and now have an awesome day sailer. This includes dropping a 12 hp Farryman one cylinder diesel into her. With regular maintenance she should last another 10😊.

  2. Always enjoy your content. You referenced a Cal 25 with a keel that swung when the boat was in the hoist straps. They all do that. In fact if an owner stiffens the keel they can no longer compete in a single class race. At least that is how it is here on the Great Lakes.

  3. Purchased a 1996 H280 for 18k December 23. I pobably paid a little too much, but she was new to the market and not a lot of wood like the older boats, which is what appealed to me. Needed nothing but wind. Only money spent so far is fuel, slip fees, and a sail cover. I'm happy, and that's what's important. I enjoy your channels!!

  4. I've just started dipping my toe into this world, probably won't be buying anything for about two-three years. (I have a plan.) The Islander 36 is one that keeps popping up in my general price range. (I'd really love a Catalina 34, but they're usually a bit pricier then I'd like.) I am planning on ONE transatlantic crossing, and then cycling up and down the Western European coast. I understand that the Islander isn't considered a blue water boat, but I've seen plenty of people make the journey in a lot less.

  5. Huh out here in Oz, you would be extremely lucky (or not, possibly to find a sub $20K boat) asides a trailer sailor or smaller. As for the notion that an older boat doesn’t necessarily make a good buy I couldn’t necessarily agree with this. My 1974 Swanson 30 is rock solid and has a long offshore racing and cruising history. Asides this, given the right conditions we still are extremely competitive in club racing, having won numerous race series etc. Just last week we won on both line honours and on handicap in race 3 of the summer multi club midweek races. Sure, my boat cost $32K and came with a vast list of new gear and upgrades but she still is a relatively cheap old boat.

  6. I've bopped around the Chesapeake Bay for 25 years on several boats, mostly on one friend's Cape Dory 28 and a pair of Endeavor 32s owned by other friends.
I liked the Endeavors a lot, but there was something kind of special about that Cape Dory that generated affection.
The same is true of a Contessa 26 I got out a handful of times, and wish had more opportunity, but my friend sold it.
I prefer to steer by tiller and the good thing about a small, simple boat is there's not a lot of expensive things to break.

  7. Hey my friend. Bought a 1983 us yachts 305. It’s a 30 foot 6 inch sailboat.
Owner said tall mast sloop design.
I’ll be picking it up on the 31st. I’ll have a tour video out most likely up February 1st.
    Paid 15k Canadian for it.
The survey I had done has the amount it worth at higher then I’m paying 😊
    No soft spots.
Was owned by a 62 year old.
Hope u check my video out when it’s up.

  8. I have a Conyplex 25-1 that I am restoring. Would love a video on that model. It was one of 300 made and was the first model made by that company.

  9. Najad 441 is the best boat I have ever sailed on, happy as a submarine in heavy weather, absolute tank of a boat, rigging is oversized. You will break before she does.

My dad is selling his after 16 years sailing, it's in Langkawi, I think. £180k and I'd buy it in a second if I could afford it and to run it. It's an absolute beast in heavy weather.

  10. hi lady k, Maxim here from the Netherlands another nice and interesting video. Many boats pass by that we do not often see in the Netherlands. Due to our growing children, we have finally been able to take the step to exchange our Waarschip 725 for a Waarschip 870. I am very curious if you know this one and what you think of it. Kind regards and see you next video

  11. Best way value any boat is to measure annual parking fees and insurance needed with the asking price. Asking price minus running annual costs is the price a happy diy'er should pay at most. Best case scenario is to ask if it is free or just offer 100-200$ and see what happens.

  12. Hey Tim! I got some money. I will just owe you 40 aftee i find hiw to pay..thanks man! come see me maybe..sorry what i said about Canada..just hated trudickhead

  13. You should review the Morgan 28 O.I. It is a very capable boat for bluewater cruising. I know, I had one and cruised it for over 14 years throughout Mexico, the sea of Cortez, Hawaii and the Caribbean.
