One more project completed! Thanks for watching!
It's just great to hear from you lovely people. Thanks for keeping us updated. We like you, you're sound people and in some way it makes us feel grounded, that you include us.
Personnally, i choose to use a paste called butyl for the sealing. It is easier to use than sika or silikon, it never dries so no need to use the technic to wait before screwing again, it is also much cheaper. I replace the windows few month ago, so i don't know yet how it will be on a long term. To my experience, i usually need FIVE times longer than what i plan! I usually work alone and i think that two people goes at least three times faster than a person alone! Bon courage pour la suite.
Looks very nice and clean.
Love your videos! The boat starting to come alive!!!
👍!!!
I would use butyl tape instead of silicone.
Have you heard of battery powered drill's? love watching😁
Yep windows!!! I have done all my motorhome windows and also my small yacht windows .
Both times under estimated the amount of preparation time
All worth it once no leaks and can see out.
To much you not enough of the hot lady !
Looking good thanks for the update the boat is coming along I'm looking forward to seeing your new electronics!👍
She’s coming along great! Nice work guys!
I am enjoying these videos. I hope you have a very safe journey.
Hey nice updates. I was at the Napa YC a few weeks ago but did not see you guys.
GLAD YOUR BACK , WE MISSED YOU GUYS
The windows sure look good! Looks sturdy.
Have you considered getting a license as an amateur radio operator? Its much safer to be able to call for help from remote areas. And it is a lot of fun talking to people all over the world.
(or just getting Elon Musk internet….)
Greetings,
Jeff
Juho, you are truly blessed to have two wonderful women to help you with your sailboat restoration.
Thanks
Hi! You’re doing great work!
As a yachting professional I have to tell you that you will probably going to have problems with the windows in the future. Silicone and bolts are really both not the way to go. I have mounted hundreds of polycarbonate windows on boats. Because polycarbonate expands quite a bit when it gets warm, it’ll eventually cause leaks when mounted with bolts and silicone.
The durable way to go would be to glue them on with a polymer compound (like Simson FastTack, but don’t know if that available there. I’m in the Netherlands).
After preparing the polycarbonate (sanding where the glue is going to be and degreasing the surfaces) they can be put on to the boat and pressure needs to be applied for a few hours. The polymer compound will also fill the holes left by the bolts. That’s it. This way, the polycarbonate can expand and the compound will stretch with it, without bolts preventing that.
Anyway, I can imagine you don’t want to do it all over again after the work you’ve put in 😅
I just wanted to let you know. Maybe for a future project with polycarbonate
You guys are doing amazing work. See you.
No electric screw driver..??!!!😅
so happy to see the boat coming along, im hoping you will be on the water soon!! ciao from Italy/uk
I'm too late to be helpful but I do hope that you oversized the bolt holes to avoid future potential damage due to temperature change and movement, etc. Good Luck!
You said acrylic was the contender for window – is safety glass not feasible or appropriate here?
I love this series. I'd love to see more of the work on the mast, and in detail. There is not much videos of mastwork on youtube
What Sealant did you use?
Ok got now DC795
What happened to your other aluminum sailboat?
Great to hear from you and how wonderful your sister came to visit and help. Keep up the good work. I am enjoying my nice quality T-shirt I purchased from you.
Just joined as a Patron. Keep up the excellent work!
Thoroughly check for corrosion before sailing.
Should have used Butyl rubber for ALL sealing applications. It is also near UV proof unlike silicone.
my heart made a little jump when i saw you posted again <3
You can apply, either professionally or by yourself, a layer of clear paint protection film on the windows, then they will also be scratch resistant.
It’s way past time you began using battery drills for driving screws and tightening bolts (for tapping threads into hole buy a set of Gun Nose Taps and Dormer cutting fluid). Use the tension clutch for uniform torque. Thanks good to see Polyurethane foam being used. I have a severe condensation problem under the deck right over where all of the radios and instruments are housed. It’s like a rainforest in that space, I can’t believe professional boat builders thought that was quality work (20 years ago). I’ll copy your technique. I have to re silicone my saloon windows, too. I’m not going to completely remove them, just dig out the silicone around the edge. I’ve been thinking of methods to rough up the gell coat to give better adhesion and am going to try a diamond coated blade on the vibratory saw to get a fine cut down inside a grove.
Everything ALWAYS takes longer/more expensive than you think it will be. Sad fact of life.
PS lick your finger when using silicone so it doesn't stick to you and leaves a nice finish.
