  1. This sounds a little muffled? Though I'll take it, as the genuine article – any other performance is always slightly different somewhere. (I'm surprised it's stereo, though.)

  2. March/April 1982..I was living in the Bute Terrace YMCA in Cardiff -Wales.
Every night, before I went to Zzzzz,I would tune into this Melody before the Shipping Forecast..
I then slept well, knowing that the ocean seafarers wouldn't come to harm's way…
Still ❤it and those infinity words.. Attention all shipping address..👋
    etc etc

  3. I still say 'German Bight' as soon as I hear 'Fisher'. Poor Billy Casper -unforgettable scenes if you were a northern lad schooled in the 60s. I first sailed as radio officer with Marconi in '72, Tocky dock, Liverpool. Heaven only knows how many times I've said it.

  4. I remember when in 1787, we set sail from Portsmouth England on H.M.S Bounty and Lieutenant William Bligh wouldn't let me bring my queen ant on the ship so I started a mutiny ⛵ ⚓ 🐜

  5. The chosen music to welcome family to celebrate the life of my late husband recently at his funeral. Wonderful lyrics shall always be remembered of sea sailing holidays as a family, from our home in the Channel Islands and finally spending 6 years living aboard on the rivers and canals of Europe. Such a beautiful calming piece of music

  6. I know im not alone when this tune comes on and feel grateful I'm at home safe and comforted as I think worst things happen at sea, my heart goes out to anyone underneath that unforgiving night sky and for that I feel blessed

  7. My Grandfather would listen to this every night on the "wireless". It was a big part of what i remember from my childhood of him. He fought in WW2, smoked roll ups and still found time during the war to prank someone and have a laugh. That was the kind of man he was. He brought home with him what today would be called PTSD, and with no help for this he was abusive to my grandmother for a time but they stuck together and raised seven children. He had softened by the time i came along and was a brilliant grandfather.

He died in 2012, but i have a lot of fond memories of him, and this was one of them. Thank you. R.I.P granddad. x
