  1. these parents raise their kids right, not like how the people on here who are "good parents" and think that you should keep your kids out of harms way untill you (the parents) die of old age. some people want more than just living the safe life getting old and sometimes it can be dangerous but i guarantee she has much better stories to tell than those living in the plastic, soft touch world that has been created by overprotective parents

  2. Sad, the girl had a dream and was just going to live it out. I give her total credit for her attempt. I have sailed for over 40 years and have hit some rough seas and storms … but NEVER so far away from any help like what she had to deal with …. ALONE ! . She had only herself to count on, Their is no disgrace in her valid attempt. I wish her all the best in any future endeavors that she goes after. She has showed courage and the spirit of competition.

  3. Well, I am so happy that she was found alive and she can celebrate her 18th birthday this year. But it has a reason, why people make such trips only with years of experience and with all neccessary patents. With 16 you cannot have all patents, because it takes some time to proof that you have sailed a certain amount of miles.

  4. And a raceboat with all those complicated trimming … She better had used a solid yacht for travelling. Wilfried Erdmann knows, why his boat is such robust, that it can kenter through without the mast getting damaged.

  5. wow, what an bitter old fart you must be. Just because your life sucks don't wish the same for those with dreams and big aspirations. She's a bad ass for trying something bold and has learned an amazing life experience called learning how to fail.

  6. She had a dream and she looks up to her brother who did the same thing so of course she was going to attempt it herself. I don't see anything wrong with that.

  7. I'm always glad when people who are lost at sea are found since my best guy friend and a couple more guys were also lost at sea after a fishing trip and they were never found.

  8. Oh, so its your jealousy, how very typical.

The bragging about your boat is a pathetic form of entitlement, but since you brought us to that level let me try.

My family has built and owned 2 sloops 53-55ft by Skye at Derecktor, the world renowned Boomerang II Maxi Class racer 65ft, Cheetah I, II, and III. We also built/owned a 165ft Feadship named Mi Gaea. We have circumnavigated the globe 5 times How's that for bragging.

All the while with kids on board over 31 years.

    you are bitter

  9. I noticed your resume didn't include trying to sail solo around the world at 16. The other guy was right. It's foolish.

  10. Oh yeah? Are you living your dreams? Because I checked out your channel and it looked like your living with your parents.

  11. Inexperienced sailor (couldn't even bring her boat into the docks by herself) + sailing during the worst time of year because she had to in order to break the record = disaster. This was failure was pretty predictable after she had to restart in Mexico.

  12. This is how experienced is gained.. she now knows what is required. She is stronger.. and more capable than any of you failface armchair sailors ever will be.

  13. Wrong place in the wrong time: Southern ocean in the winter. (On the other hand: No World record = No Money, there was not much time to beat Jessica Watsons upcoming record)

  14. She is one of the children of sailors. Some of whom have sailed around the world themselves. The children begin sailing at a very early age. They learn to sail by themselves early as well. The parent (experienced sailors) know the children can sail. To these children telling them they can't sail is like saying they are too young to walk.

  15. Did she ever re-pay the French & Australian governments for rescuing her? I am not concerned they have a law against "charging." Wondering if her book deal got her enough money to pay for her rescue. People at sea should have to pay just like 911 callers have to pay for Ambulances even when they did not create the emergency.
