A nicely-produced video. However perhaps it should have been made clear that the technique shown to turn the boat through 180 degrees is NOT applicable to single-engined Inboard/outboard powered boats.
I also doubt if it's wise to reverse a boat towards a mooring buoy and put yet more rope into the water at the stern so close to a revolving prop – safer, surely, to do this over the side when alongside the buoy rather than at the stern
The video also doesn't show how to moor up single-handed!
newsnetuk Could you expand a little on why this propwalked turn would not normally work on single screws ? On my Day Skipper I managed to use this technique perfectly.
My own boat is a single-prop full keeler and I doubt she'd go around well… and, with any amount of wind pushing the bow off, perhaps not get around at all.
But I always thought this was a good fast way to turn a fin in her own footprint with a single screw. I'd love to know more : )
you don't reverse in to a mooring because i will get tangled round the propeller
fucking idiot.
I like the lesson @2:30 of turning 180 degrees in place with a single engine. At first I never thought that to be possible unless you had twins (which does make it A LOT easier) but then I had learned this technique and seeing you perform it here is very nice because not too many show that. Well done.
Hi, just got our first mobo. Not yet picked up a bouy.
Can I ask why or what situations you'd reverse into a bouy? I know nothing except to keep all ropes away from the prop. Reversing seems a bit mental to me!
What kind of boat is that?
I was doing all this by myself on a catamaran 46ft
You don't have an anchor?
Hi do you have costal offshore practicle course thanks
