Light airs only. On a 36 ft cutter, that pole is a monster and needs about 3 men to deploy.
So, no guys? No need to secure the end of the pole forward or aft?
How to gybe with the whisker pole?
What about when racing, when certainly not going to roller-furl? It is barely possible (on my 10 m boat) to extend the pole against the wind when already rigged. Also, I have seen some reference to an "after-guy".
