Naval Architects should recognize by now, that there must be lots of room for solar arrays! So far I have not seen this here! I am surprised!

This guy has to design so many boats, all looking very different from one another, yet he has to think about SO many factors to make it livable. Imagine all the things he knows. He could make the PERFECT boat.
Edit: I'm just amazed all the stuff they can put into boats not much larger than studio apts.
Great are the French at the Amel boat plant. They show friendly way of hosting you. The interview is exelent.

Not that I will sail singlehanded. But does anyone have an opinion on the jeauneau sun odyssey 54 ds for ease of solo/shorthanded sailing.
I had a idea to retire on a sailboat. I watched your channel for some time. My plans have changed and thats ok. (I am now led to build farms for orphanages in developing countries to supply them with sustainable food sources)
My question is what happened to the Cat Ketch? The ultimate low maintenance low crew requirement SV. Why is no one building them since the eighties?
The founder of West Marine had a custom 66 ft built that he and his wife could sail. He could have had ANY boat design built with his budget but he chose Cat Ketch But other than that type of one off build no one is doing it. They are the best (at least in mono hull design. Haven't seen a catamaran design yet. )
No standing rigging. Absolutely zero!!! (besides initial cost reduction, and maintenance cost reduction, in a fiberglass boat especially, this reduces chance of water intrusion into the core of deck through screw holes)
Least amount of sails.
Least amount of running rigging.
Self jibing.
In case of a over power the mast will bend spilling off pressure from the sails, reducing chance of knock down.
These boats win races. Especially ones with downhill wind, with wing on wing sailing.
They stand straighter in the wind when sailing.
Ok the mast cost $50k each. (Not in bulk) but seems kind of cheap for the positives.
The Garcia centreboard boats look very interesting….

it is absolutely wonderful that this man wants to sit down and listen to some salty sailors and listen to what they think good or bad!! this is why he is a legend in the business.. he designs a boat that is lovely, but rugged and practical.. amazing guy with a unbelievable talent

This is treasure
They give the boats lots of freeboard because it has a better righting moment….. yeah riiight….
I suspect that these boats need to have lots of freeboard because they have a relatively light displacement spread over a large area, means the hull sits very very shallow In the water. This means the sole (floor) sits high in the water. Combined with good headroom in the cabin, that means high freeboard.
That sloop sure looks nice
I think the designer was a little surprised by the 18th century levels of provisions you take!
I really don't understand the ratios on the new Amel. Asked them but no reaction yet. For example the B/D ratio for the Amel 50 is horrible for bluewater cruising, no number on AVS, no polars. Can you clarify?
If the length of the boat is measured in feet, why is everything else in meters? Better? Why aren't we measuring the boats in meters?
