Ep029 - Un pic de Bling On Our Trailer Sailor

  1. on the tool blades wearing out fast- Dremel makes a carbide tipped blade now that I haven't worn yet doing my own fiberglass boat project…..usa part number mm485bu I got a 3-pack on ebay for $20usd

  2. Isn't that one the trailer sailer you bought for a mooring minder and thus the question, how have you got it home:-) ? Best regards 🙂

  3. The blade you used on the oscillating tool was a scraper, ment for removing glue , not cutting glass, try the diamond encrusted round or 1/2round to cut glass.

  4. Hi ross been following you,I also built our boat 16 years ago and may be this may help for when you are fitting the staunchions for hand railling I purchased fiberglass tubing with id to fit stainless stauchions and drilled suitable holes in deck an then fiberglassed them in coving etc, also sat them in a shallow tray of resin to seal bottoms first the tubes sit about 10 mm above deck. Never any leaks staunchions held in with pop rivet cheers hope this helps mate from NZ.

  5. Love what you are doing mate. I am so glad I stumbled on to your channel. I actually met you last year just after you had got the molds back to JB. I was with a group from Sydney and some of them had hired kayaks thru you. You and I were at Green Patch waiting for the rest of the group to arrive and we had a great chat about the molds and your plans for the build. So glad you are youtubing it all so we can follow along. If you ever need a hand with the build I'd be more than happy to drive down from Sydney to help.

  6. I have a thought about the rub rail . I feel by putting the holes in your seem any stress on the rail has the potential to split your seem. The way it was bolted, uses the rail being mechanically joined to the bottom hull, the rail top lip is used to mechanically hold the top down. That way you have a mechanical joint(rail) and a chemical joint (glue) holding the two parts together. Your way only has the glue holding the rail and components. I love your vids by the way.

  7. Many moons ago when I got hitched to the "Boss" we had the ceremony and reception organised to be in the inlaws back garden at Mannum (just north of Murray Bridge in South Oz).
Every thing was going fine till the weather forcast for the day was announced.
We had +40C temps and 35 – 40 knot winds.
It wasn't the best day to be done up in full getting married clobber.
There wasn't enough room inside the inlaws small cottage to move inside, and many of the guests had the long drive back to Adelaide and work the next day so couldn't avail themselves of the coldies to relieve the heat.
Lost a tent and a few umbrellas that day.
    I hate northerly winds.
    Cheers Eric

  8. Love seeing the build mate. Good to see longer videos as well. I like the details and build process as well as the showy stuff and laughs.. on ya cobber..

  9. Brilliant name for the trailer sailor. The part where you removed the masking tape from the Sikaflex was oddly satisfying to watch. Good work again, Ross!

  10. Haha nice name lol. The more I see of your work, the more I think vacuum infusing two separate ama hulls in a symmetric mold would be the only way I could manage to build a large boat like this.

  11. Hi . Do you spray the resin with gelcoat equipment? Do you change the nozzle on the gun or applying resin or gelcoat?

  12. You mention the aggressive nature of FG in blunting cutting tools. We had to do a job drilling and tapping a couple of hundred holes in FG. After a couple of dozen the drills were blunt and even the taps were worn to the extent the bolts wouldn’t fit in the holes.

  13. My boating background is UK canals. It’s a different environment to yours. The use of sticky out screw heads and the prominent strake ends would be asking for trouble. Only countersunk screws would be used and the oversized ends wouldn’t.

  14. Great job!
YOU CAN TAKE A DREMEL WITH A CUTTING WHEEL GRINDER DISK AND CUT LITTLE TEETH INTO THE WORN OUT VIBRATOR TOOL AND IT WILL WORK JUST FINE!!!! I do it all the time!!! Use them until they are nubs
