  1. I have an Outremer 51 located in the united states, I can vouch for this boat that it is a GREAT vessel, build quality is superb, and many people ( including myself) wonders if this much sacrifice in space and luxury is worth it in speed, well in short it is, below are the stats I did two weeks ago:
wind speed 21 true and 26 apparent.
    sea condition 4 foot waves
boat set up full main, eased on top and eased on outhaul. full code zero pulled to my "magical spot" on its sheet line.
wind direction from beam at 90
boat speed: 19.7 with hand steering, 16 with autopilot.
all pure water speed no surfing.
daggerboard down on the downwind hull.
boat weight half water in each tanks and full fuel, carrying tender, full fridge with three sailors, in short, cruising setup.
I passed a monohull on my starboard doing 7.5 in the same conditions, he felt like sitting still.
the boat can go faster but I was a afraid I would start flying a hull.
when you see "boat speed" in many videos where they go 20+, mostlikely they are surfing. personally I don't consider being carried by waves as my true speed the same I cannot claim I can run 500 mph if I run to the toilet while in an airplane, "water speed" is the true speed of a boat and Outremer 51 can at LEAST go 19.7 knots waterspeed, even more with experienced sailor, when surfing I did 26 knots for a few minutes at a time in Feb this year, that didn't mean anything because a drift wood can go 10 knots if the waves are pushing it at 10 knots.
if the wind is coming at this boat on its beam then it can do 310 to 320 per 24 hours.
if the wind is coming from behind I would still expect 240 miles every 24 hour day.
if going into the wind this boat can sail at maximum of 30 degrees apparent, max speed I did upwind was 9 to 10 knots with 20 knots apparent wind speed with both daggerboard down.

  2. I love the yachting world reviews of boats, could you perhaps stretch getting a camera with a wide angle lens like a GoPro or an iPhone with a moment fisheye. It would give a much better walk through..

  3. With a big cat like that, you should have an Expandacraft modular boat of some kind on board. Expandacraft is a modular multihull which fits in small spaces and can transform into all sorts of watercraft. Row, paddle, paddle, sail or motor, it's like the Lego of boats

  4. Comments really show who the sailing enthusiasts are, and those who want a floating condo. Outremer build boats for people who want to sail, and sail fast. If you want a giant salon with a ton of amenities that will sit in a marina and look pretty, buy something else. If you want to see the world under wind power, an Outremer would be the way to go and what I'd choose.
