I absolutely love your videos, I am a new Sailor and your videos have been teaching me quite a bit. I really like how you make things a bit easier and how you take the time to explain. Keep up with the videos I'll keep watching hahaha, may you have calm seas ahead of you.

  2. Why is the horizontal bar needed? Seems to me that just the three point tie-off on the sail is all that is needed. The other sailboats at the very beginning of the video do not have that bar. It would be much simpler to set up, take down and to change headings.

  3. Great video! This is my first season racing, and I am the bowman on an Olson 30. My skipper sent me this video to review before a race. One suggestion about jibing: the way you demonstrated requires the bowman to hold and flip the pole 180 degrees – difficult to balance on a pitching foredeck, and damn near impossible on a large boat with a long and heavy pole. The way my skipper teaches is to first grab the active sheet and bring it to the mast. In one quick motion you can open the jaw, remove the mast ring, and insert the old sheet (now the new guy). Then instead of spinning the pole, simply slide it outboard and bring the other jaws to the mast. Reverse the process again in one motion by removing the old guy from the jaws and putting it on the mast. It helps if you have an extra crew manage assist by adjusting the topping lift and downhaul tension during this process.

  4. John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” Jesus the Messiah died for the remission of sin, including yours, was buried, and rose form the dead 3 days later. If you simply believe in this to apply to you and trust Jesus to save you from hell then you have everlasting life in heaven. John 6: 47 "verily, verily I say unto you, he that believeth on me has everlasting life."-Jesus.

  5. I as a experienced sailer found this to be sorta correct but when you are on the water your down and up hull sould already be connected you won't be able to do this during racing and it would be impossible in over 20 knots the spinnaker sould also already be connected when sailing you sould only have to pull your up hull and spinnaker halyed when sailing to get set up the videoe is correct but like I say for safety sake this sould already all be done on the water you should do your spinnekar riging on land but still good work on explaining and keep making great video's

  6. Many thanks for the video. With your help, I was actually testing a symmetric GP14 Spinnaker on my Drascombe Lugger yesterday but wonder if you can help? I see you run the tack/clew sheets astern to blocks and then forward from those to cleats.

What is the reason you run them astern to blocks and do you really need to do that or can you run them directly from the sail to cleats?

  7. Another great sailing instruction video, Josh! Thanks to you, I have begun sailing with friends and they know what they are doing but don't think I'm stupid. I'm being invited to sail more and more. You have taught me and others about the nomenclature and we can sail with others and when they say something, we understand it. I think you have the best instructional videos of sailing on YouTube. I really appreciate how you help new people to sailing how it works. Thank you!

  8. You are a wonderful teacher! I am taking my ASA 101 in San Diego in a month, and I feel that I will have gained some ground already with your teaching! I will keep watching your videos!

  9. Question; why detach the spinnaker pole from both the spinnaker and the mast when doing the jibe? Why not just detach it from one bottom corner and swing it over and re-attach it to the other bottom corner? Very new to this and I couldn't tell why detaching the pole completely from both the mast and the spinnaker is necessary. Thanks!
