Trying to work out my camper trailer battery usage thankyou, Land Boat lol
Ive watched this video like 3 times now… this has got to be one of the coolest techno boats ive ever seen… beautiful finish and the electric technology is just bad ass on this thing.
These two videos were excellent. Don't just complement the person being interviewed, Mr O'Kelly did a great job too!
I also would like to know how long the project took to complete. Thank you.
I've chartered Top Secret before when it was with Voyage Yachts, had a blast! Good to see her again!
Hey Nick, is it cheaper to use Micro inverters on these panels?
Amazing work done. Respect.
Cool boat! but have a look at this ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld0b62bnlgg
What an amazing boat!
A Cata-telsa-maran? Very cool.
What I use for a fid for small diameter dyneema (for hammocks and my kayak) is plastic drinking straws. I slit them and roll up on end to a point, roll up the other side to the diameter of the line. Works good, and I always have the right sized fid. For the larger lines on your cats, maybe some other cheap thin plastic cylindrical something or other. For a long puller for buries I have some stainless steel piano wire about 3/64ths, folded over tightly. If I can make soft shackles and eyes that work than yes it's easy and fun. (btw I never see any hammocks on any boats. I'm sitting in a Mayan hammock right now. Great in the heat, great in the living room if you're an old hippie. )
Do a google for "polyester resin is not actually waterproof." I've met more guys who had boats in the 1970s who were just driven nuts by pinholes, blisters that just grew and grew. They all say the same thing. "I spent all my time fixing the holes and blisters until I just gave up". So obviously the newer boats are doing something different? Maybe it's the gelcoat? (I've never used a gel coat on my kayaks, they don't look good, but they're epoxy and they float. Clearly don't know everything. Maybe gelcoat would've changed everything?). I hear polyester and I just get nervous. I better look this up. I used to make photo darkroom sinks, MDF, couple of coats of polyester resin- great sinks. But they always would get pinholes and blisters. I always assumed that somehow I must have damaged the surface. Nope. Poly by itself chemically reacts with water with the result being pinholes leading to blisters….
Wow.. great video .. absolutely gorgeous boat – real labour of love. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🙏😊
Amazing tour. So very interesting!
Simply phenomenal ! Love this boat and everything he has done … wish he would put out a schematic guide to do this to a boat … lots of Hurricane boats that need complete overhauls …
I love this video! thanks for such a valuable content Nick. I wonder if Rean or even yourself would recommend a company that could do this conversions in a 44' Catamaran. If you do, please let me know. I don't have the boat yet so I can buy one done if available too.
Can we see a copy of the drawings or rough sketches of this fantastic conversion why cant the builders do this on order
Really thought out conversion. Brilliant!
WHOLE MOLE GUACAMOLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can one man live or run this vessel single handed
Why not use Micro inverters to address the shading issues?
Wow, impressive doesn't even explain this adequately. That is some next level refit / rebuilding.
Brilliant video.
So, if you are anchored in a place w 2-3 kts of tidal flow, or river flow, can you use the motors for regeneration? Most people don’t anchor in a 7kt current
Ohms Law for beginners.
Sounds like a crash course in nautical material science.
You can only use about 50 percent of your Batterie. Voltages drops then
Why hasn't this sold yet?
That was a fantastic crash course in ohm’s law! Bravo 👏👏👏
The cabling gauge and controllers are definitely a reason why you’d want four small engines over two large. Load distribution is vital to a healthy system. I’d be curious to know if there’s a maneuverability or efficiency gain depending on the engine/props placement (in line per hull, in line with each other, pod style with independent rotation 🤷♂️)
The owner spent $1 million to convert this old charter into what it is today?
You can get micro controllers now, might be worth taking a look.
Kinda weird end…
I've been searching the states and europa for a catamaran. My wife wants to move to San Diego.. but I prefer the USVI or the Mediterranean personally, better sailing. She is in the medical field and could not work in a non English speaking country. I found a Cat in San Diego for sale, but it gas……… and that's not going to happen. I haven't thought much into switching to electric until now, but I'd like to know the cost and get in touch with some people that know more about it. You can read one thing online, then two seconds later read something that completely contradicts it. There is more background, but I'll keep it at that and hope for a respond, I have a decent amount to spend on this, but I'm not going to throw my money away. Could REALLLY use some help and insight, thank you. I'm tempted to leave my number… but I fell I would regret that, if you see this please PM me. Thank you, have a great day!
Week that's nice but I rather have one double winding single axle 48 volt 2000 watt turbine also in the sea! More battery needed and order it online but it was a 800 dollar permanent magnet alternator or generator..
What a beautiful boat.
The owner is knowledgeable.
Brilliant , fascinating conversation about rigging and sailing. Thank you!
Cockpit Envy. LOL
Soooo glad i found this one… and the follow up..
BTW from electric aircraft models and real the more motors/props you have the more efficient the propulsion becomes…. Unless you go to a huge gear driven single prop.
16:12 Almost proves you could get a PhD from YouTube 🙂
i just looked up the price of these motors . This guy spent $158k on 4 electric motors? I hope that price also includes the batteries , otherwise he was ridiculously ripped off .
There is a yellow line that has lost it's sheath leading back to the helm!
Can you provide a link to the solar panels you used for this conversion, or type in Brand and model number. Great video production, and thank you!!
ummmm… ok!!! Great Video!!! Call me crazy. what happens when you turn 2 to go and 2 to repower while sailing!!!
