  1. After watching the scenes with Lombardozzi in the movie I was interested in Anthony Salerno. He is a great actor, especially when he's in the same scene with the GOATs like Pesci, De Niro and Pacino.

Before Hoffa's disappearance, Fat Tony was the Consigliere of the Genovese crime family, serving under boss Philip "Benny Squint" Lombardo. At the time nobody knew that Benny Squint was the boss, many suspected Frank "Funzi" Tieri but he was only the front boss. The setting of this scene would be the early 70s (if I remember correctly). Fat Tony became the Consigliere in 1972 and since Benny Squint was basically unknown to the public and Funzi had all these health problems, they did something smart and placed Fat Tony as the sole representative/Boss of the Genovese family.

The same year Hoffa disappeared, Fat Tony was promoted to the position of Underboss, still serving under Benny Squint and Funzi. He'd stay there until Funzi's retirement in 1980. After Funzi's retirement he was promoted to Front Boss and served only 1 year under Benny Squint, as the latter retired in 1981. He'd serve the next few years under The Chin and then in 1987 he was sentenced to 100 years in prison. He died in the can in 1992 as one of the kings of La Cosa Nostra and definitely one of the richest.

Russell Bufalino wasn't the only fascinating Mafioso that was depicted in the Irishman. Fat Tony's story, Angelo Bruno's story and demise were equally fascinating as well imo.

  2. This showed Hoffa's ego was out of control. He's openly glaring at the men he once needed the green light from to wack Tony Pro. He clearly understood their power but believed he was above it all for some reason. Russell was a very powerful man, despite that, he asked jimmy politely to step down and live his life in retirement. Hoffa responded by shouting and throwing it back at him. "Nobody threatens Hoffa."
By this point in the movie I was just waiting for the mob to drop him.

  3. Seeing where the cast of HBO the Wire went after that show Idris Elba Michael B Jordan Michael K. Williams Domenick Lombardozzi etc glad to see the success

  4. Guy who played Fat Tony did a great job, but I can’t help but think had Gandolfini not passed away he would’ve gotten this role and absolutely killed it. I also felt like he would’ve killed it as Tony Pro.

  5. This whole scene is one of the greatest moments in cinema history just right after "nah nah nah you insulted him a little bit. You were little out of order yourself".

  6. Hoffa drank way too nuch of hus own koolaid i understand he built that uniin amd pension funds and hioffa knew whar the mob was capability of murdering anyone but for sone reason he thought 🤔 he was untouchable ,he even got warned ,its crazy but hoffa one riule coulda saved his ljfe , he stated he waits only 10minutes for anyobe, duds was waiting over 10 minutes before he dued

  7. Should have never gotten in bed with the mob to begin with. Said by everyone who has ever gotten in bed with the mob.

  8. As an avid history fan and someone who read extensively about the mob – this scene is extra enjoyable to me. However, there is only one boss talking here. And no, it is not Fat Tony who is basically telling Russel (boss of a "lesser" family) what Hoffa is doing. Russel is the only boss here. Fat Tony was a decoy his whole life, for two different true bosses. So the scene is basically a messenger of someone truly very powerful telling Russel what needs to be done

  9. "You're SURE he said that, Tony?", that's how quick a decision can be made to have you whacked, and Hoffa's face when he had an idea of what they were discussing was basically the last nail in the coffin. DeNiro's character probably kept him alive a bit longer than he otherwise would've gone, but that just meant that when the time came, it'd be a dear friend who had to give him the business.
