Cool you sailed Laser 2's, they were the raddest boat of the 80s and 90s. Super squirrelly boats, like a twin fin in huge waves. Super loose then all the sudden the foils bite. They attracted the rogues and weirdos. We raced these fux. Beautiful boats but sometimes the gybe mark looked like a multicar pileup. Wire to wire tacks, roll gybe with a spinnaker, measure the rig tension etc. It was a UNIVERSE!!! Some of the best times of my life were going flat out in SF Bay planing up & downwind. The spinnaker and rudder were a bit oversized. So gnar but not as good as surfing.

Hey @John John Florence, I have the same knee injury as you on my right knee. I am an avid Northern California surfer. I am wondering what model or brand is that knee brace you wear to surf in? I spent 3 years in the South Pacific on a 36' sloop the Mana Lele. This was back in '90's. First stop Palmayra back when Ainsley Fullard-Leo still owned the island. He actually sailed there and none of us had permission to be there but when he found out we were from Hawaii it was all G! Yacht Mana Lele and our names are still on the wall in the 'Yacht Club'.

Inspirational. I grew up sailing and surfing with my dad as well, we also race the f1 hobie 18 sometimes (its an insane boat). Am finally buying a hobie 16 for myself and mate when i get out of lockdown lesgo.
