One of the greatest songs ever written and sung. It’s a masterpiece.
Such a relaxing song
" Arthur" Theme song. That's why he sounds familiar. His voice.
The reason it sounds familiar is because dozens of MCs have sampled it!
i can close my eyes and remember my youth
He was turned down multiple times for a record deal and when he finally got signed, his debut album won 5 Grammy. WOW!!!!
Plus the musicians that played on this album are well known, Nicolette Larson Eric Johnson, Michael Macdonald! The stars were aligned for him .
Its been heavily sampled so the familiarity
This song has always been magical to me. It’s perfect, from the vocals, to the lyrics, to the arrangement. All perfect. If you’re having a bad day, just go sailing with Christopher Cross. You won’t regret it.
Amazing stuff ❤
Perhaps your childhood! "Sailing" is a 1979 soft rock song written and recorded by American artist Christopher Cross. Was played every where all 80's. Many people confuded his songs: "Sailing", "Ride Like the Wind", "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)", "Never Be the Same", "All right", "Think Of Laura" and many others, were sang by Peter Cetera, they had almost equal voice. Christopher Cross is a great Song writter, musician, sadly, aging to blame, his voice is not the same.
Meh. Top 40 pablum.
Absolutely Masterpiece!!!
Puff Daddy used it as a base in his song Best Friend. You might have heard it there first.
Yeah… Jeff Porcaro plays a simple 4/4 groove in a way that nobody else will ever do it. The live version here (is it live?) is wonderful.
Sometimes a song is so perfectly crafted and performed that you get the sense that it has always existed. This is one of very few that fit that bill
I have always despised this song. It is one of my all time most disliked songs I’ve ever heard. After hearing it for the first time in years, I realize I was right the first time. Nope! 🤮
One of the best masterpiece ever created by man. Makes you appreciate your hearing. This song can take you to a different place and very songs can do that. Christopher Cross is underated. 💯🔥⛵️
Have you heard Avant sing this? It’s really good actually. For many years I was listening only to Avant’s version, now I’m back to Chris Cross. But I really like Avant’s version, too.
song always reminds me of my beautiful white Persian cat that passed. RIP Athena
Some of the absolute best music is from the 70s.
Diddy sampled this song for one of his own songs. Maybe that’s where you heard it.
Christopher Cross sang Arthur's Theme.
P.Diddy used it
Never gets old. This song is the definition of fantasy. It can take you to places you’ve never been.
This is the perfect song. It has everything.
One on the greatest songs everr written and performed. Now in 2023 his voice is still great
Paradiso 🙏
Yeah he's a big dude. I would expect him to be on the defense of the Buffalo Bills
Jesus Christ dude, if you don’t know the movie Arthur starring Dudley Moore and featuring many songs by Christophe Cross, I am going to have to revoke your black credentials…per my girlfriend…and you are awesome, fyi. And my girlfriend is wayyyy darker than you…
Thanks for the cool reaction Jamel. The version of this video you watched is overdubbed with the studio recording. But, here is the version of this video with the actual live playing. Very cool.
Puff Daddy – Best Friend. It sounds like this song but it is a little bit faster.
Dude don't go in the drink😂😂😂😂😂
This song won song of the year
You recognize the intro cuzz Guy used it on Let's Chill
You're a sellout Jamel.
Christoper Cross owned the 1979 Grammys. He is the only artist to we Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Record of the Year Best Arrangement and Vocals and Best New Artist. He won five of six Grammys that year. He also won an Oscar in 1980 for Best Original Song for the Theme to Arthur. He was so underrated and extremely talented.
sitting here crying for a lost culture, a lost youth, a lost hope.
Essa música é incrível, nos faz viajar para longe… masterpiece forever
The opening sounds like someone has sampled it. Just can’t figure if so, and who has used it
**update. Google lends its amazing hands. Masta Ace sampled this in 2004 with the some Brooklyn masala
The beginning is like the opening of "a movie" …it builds to his "story" ….absolute artist . Magic. Transends time…..❤
I just watched Chris perform this on Howard Stern and revealed the meaning behind the song. He was the fourth of five children to an alcoholic father who didn't show much love or affection. He met a man named Al who took the place of a father and the sailing away taking him to a place he always knew could be with what it felt like to have a father that loved and cared for him.
NSYNC did a cover of this and it's really good but I like the original.
This is another song that makes your heart and soul and mind sour jamel ❤❤😊
Airy, floaty, emotional with gobs of warm space. What’s not to love? Genuine masterpiece.
He was really big when I was a kid and I loved his music ❤
