Something a bit different to the usual gliders (But still RC and wind powered)
This was the first try of my own-design Land Yacht. The body is made from light-ply, with carbon fibre tubes for the mast, boom, and axels.
The wheels are from an old model aircraft. I gave about 45 degrees rake on the steering. The sail is made from rip-stop nylon and operated using a high-torque servo.
I may give the rear wheels some camber and adjust the sail slightly, but the test run went well.
The wind was blowing about 12-13 mph.
Even on ground you are awesome !👍❣️
Very well done !
Nice machine
Bravo mr woodfield
Maybe for a gyro…….that looks fun to play with..
Time for a custom Woodfield Wingsail!
"Excellent" !!!! and "Fun" 🙂
Good job designing and building John! And great camera work, assuming it was your wife. Very similar to the ice boats we use on frozen lakes here in Michigan.
Great…
It looks like so much fun.
Thank you John.
I remember seeing full man sized ones during the winter in Minnesota, racing on frozen lakes…of course they had blades instead of wheels.
Exciting to see new ideas.
Fantastic. Id have to use a parking lot if I had such a vehicle. I don't know of any hard pack sand around here.
Is this the beach you fly over at your glider site?
Olá John, maravilhoso muito top esse modelo, você tem planta dele ?
great idea .
Fly that vertical (and reversible) wing! I see you can get it to crab sideways, as well.
Nice change of pace.
It appears the sail is fixed, so keeping it in the wind is a process of steering the whole vehicle. Would this be correct?
Neat little cart. Thanks for posting this video.
Love to have something like this rigged for ice and snow, for playing in the Great Canadian Winter!
Nice to see something different.
Next one could be rc paraglider?
That's brilliant! I hope you didn't have Mrs. Woodfield running after it while filming…………… Best new year to you both, stay safe, and many many thanks for your work in 2020. Top Bloke!
The land Yachts are a lot of fun to race. Get some friends together and have a ball.
Thanks for posting John.
Absolutely brilliant, what a great design.
Do you also sail full scale ? You would probably enjoy a catamaran : I sailed a Prindle 18 in the 1980's , 1990's , and 2000's .
What is this, first video I have seen you do with no inverted flight 😆😁👍
Utterly cool… i had so much fun with these machines on the beaches of France… 1:1 scale… I might try to make a RC one…
That is so cool I love it. On my way to the shop and start gathering parts as I also do RC sailboats so should have pieces. Can you tell me approx. measurements, length, width, height ? Thank's John.
I used to have two land yachts A single seater prototype and a two seater set up with dual controls. Best good clean fun on a beach ou could have. Spent many afternoons and late evenings with my kids (aged 4-6 back then) going up and down the beach. I used to tuck them into a sleeping bag to keep them warm and sail off into the sunset. I can see lots of improvements you can make to yours but I will let you discover them for yourself. There is a big smile on my face watching your video. I also must ask what technique was used to follow the yacht along with the camera. Surely your longsuffering wife was not running along beside it.
Wowwwww
Very cool! staying true to the purity of wind power. well done, Sir.
Great headwork John, always playing with different toys😜😜, the inusual thing is your thing, congratulations! It looks fun to stay in the beach at summer with the girlfriend, and not be worried😁😁.
Thanks for share with us 😎👍👍
That looks like something fun to build!
Beautiful efficient sail ! How did you set the drawing/sewing/shape ?
Suggestion for a next work , rc kite buggy, same scale or bigger, great challenge anyway !
nice one john… how about posting the plans.. please
Neat introduction to 2021 John, lovin it !! Happy New year and best wishes from Alan in South Yorkshire 👍👍🤗🤗❤
Very cool!
Be careful you may end up sailing IOM’S in the river Gannel park in Newquay ⛵️⛵️🙄
Please publish some plans for this and give a link!! Great job!
I have one (hobbyking model), used it few times and is good fun. I like the look of yours!
上手く走りますね!
日本では見かけません‼︎
製作方法を教えて欲しいです。
Fantastic design! RC land yachts are very fun. The full scale ones are super sketchy but an awesome ride.
Great video. It was also nice to see the beach that we usually just see as background.
Gives me happy memories … I did the same 40 years ago with my first RC-equipment 🙂
Skill man👍
Cool. Different perspective. Very 2- dimensional. Appears the wind really picks up there. How fast does it go?
Amazing!
Diy version would be nice
Masterful !
It is f% amazing!!… Is it able to tack against the wind? How many degrees offset?
looks so fun
Wow!! That's crazy!
