  1. Your explanation is exceedingly clear, concise and complete, aided sweetly by the simple but effective graphics at the bottom righthand corner. Brilliant effort! Thank you so much for sharing.

  2. Great spinnaker tips Flo. I’d never been happy with how we’d had the tack rigged, through a bow roller. Also love your ratchet block idea for the sock downhaul.

  3. Today is the 4th of March. I just heard that there was an 8.1 earthquake near NZ with tsunami warnings throughout the south seas. Be safe and ya'll are in my prayers.

  4. We also love our A.S. We have been using the pole but your explanation on rigging and transferring from the bow roller makes it so much easier than how we have been doing it. Thanks so much.

  5. It's fun doing this single handed! Although I don't have a spinnaker pole to use. A crusing chute or sock makes a massive difference though and makes handling the sail much easier.

  6. Been following you for a while now and love your channel. What weight of nylon is the chute and are the tapes heavier than the sail cloth? And if you had to do it all over again would you go for a sail with deeper/ fuller shoulders, especially on the luff shoulder for better downwind? Lighter/heavier cloth? Also, to gybe the chute do you first douse or can you gybe with the sock hoisted on a masthead rig? If you can gybe with the sock up do you have a crane at the masthead truck for the spin halyard? I have a very similar boat that I SH and DH with a symmetric chute but I’m looking for something easier and I like how you set up your boat for the asym – very clean.

  7. Can you describe a bit more the set up of your spinnaker pole please. You have 3 lines, does the hook just go on one of the lines? We have a pole with an inhaul and outhaul but there isn't the line that holds it up that you have. We are pretty new to this boat, so its a case of working out what is there and not, but I really like your video and the explanation.

  8. I use my spinnaker often but thanks for the tip on using the pole to catch the wind and gain more control. I’m not a schooled sailor by any means.. what’s the max wind speed can my spinnaker take on a 36ft boat .

  9. 1)
In the condition of sailing downwing in the window 155 dgr to 180.
What happen if one drop the mainsail and continue with spinnaker alone ?
from your great the video I understand, that you in those conditions chose to go with the goosewing/wing on wing sailing.

    2)
Do you have anything to say about the size of the spinnaker v. boatsize.
Like you have different sizes of headsails, do you have small, medium and large spinnaker or only one size per boat.
I was thinking about to practize with small or medium size before going ahead with a full size.

thx. al lot and fair winds

  10. I’m a total noob. I found your channel because I’m aspiring to learn how to sail this year, and this is the only time I saw an explanation that is noob friendly. The diagrams help a lot to understand. No one would be mad at you guys if you make one about the basics of sailing 🙃

  11. I really loved this video. You guys have a way of explaining things that is very clear and really sticks. That being said, I’m taking an online “learn to sail” course that someone has put together. It’s a pre made , self paced kinda thing. It’s $100. You guys might want to consider doing something like that. Creating a course for people to get the basics down to help them get out on the water. We have a J29 and my husband used to race 12 meters but I have no boat experience. Episodes like this are so valuable to me as a good foundation. I would gladly take a course made by you guys.

  12. Great video. A question: As I can't find a ratchet snatch block for sale, do you use one? do they even exist? Or do you just have the ratchet block loose (bouncing on deck?) when you raise the sock? I'm a bit confused. Thank you for your response.

  13. Thank you for the great tips.
While my experiences don’t include sailing…. I have a huge desire to learn.
Your videos make the dream a reality, something i can visualize, as a future possibility. Hard work and some very rare experiences.
    You share are awesome.
    Love and light.
Keep sailing in joy and happiness.
    Be safe…

  14. So you have a main halyard, jib halyard, spinnaker halyard and a fourth halyard for your spinnaker pole? Sorry, not really a very advanced sailor here, if this seems apparent to everyone else!

  15. Thank you for the video. I tried to use a spinnaker for the first time a week ago. but i think i have a symetrical spinnaker, i think. i need to get a sock like that i think. looks so easy to use with it.

  16. Great Video, thanks. What type of pole do you have? I am looking to buy a pole for a 35 foot monohull. It looks like you are using an adjustable wisker pole. If so, is there any issue with using it for the spinaker tack instead of fixed length spinaker pole. Thank you, Mike.

  17. Great tutorial, lots of stuff that I’ve never done, seen, or heard! Lots to think about! Every video is better than the last, keep up the great work!
    Thank you!
