Of course its easy to understand why these islands asked for ‘indépendance’ from the UK back in the 60s and 70s .. to a large extent it was so that a few privileged people could get their hands on power and money .. which explains why nothing has been done to rebuild Barbuda .. as you know well these places are so different to the French islands which are properly run, with little or no corruption and generally for the benefit of the whole population and not just a corrupt few

9. don't discount the air density when it's cold vs when warm. It makes a large difference on how it affects the sailing vessel.

    It was sad seeing Barbuda nearly leveled by Hurricane Irma. The rebuilding issues explained reflect what Cape Cod's natives (including islands Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket) have faced for many decades: The "retaining the local charm" vs. "bringing the tourism" economic dilemma Barbuda faces. The solution often sees the "big corporation" interests environmentally zoned to very specific locations already long developed, plus also limiting how and what they develop {e.g., adapt to preserve the ambience that attracts people, add vital infrastructure, limit traffic flow, respect local cultural norms in architecture}. Usually, that prevents large scale resorts, prohibits 'big box' warehouse stores, and prefers "Mom & Pop" business models. Environmental sensitivity to fresh water supply is a key tourism accommodation driver, too. No big corporations can just come in to bulldoze and build.

11. I recall very well watching the news about the hurricane stalling over Barbuda. It looked horrible. How many lives were lost.?

13. You need Beach wheels for your dinghy. We have 30cm rubber wheels which means it's easy to walk the dinghy 100metres if the tide changes. Ours are from Beachmaster in NZ.

16. It is very risky to build anything in Barbuda ….. it is in "hurricane alley" …. and it's elevation is just a few feet.

35. How foolish? Vera's being charged $75 lazy dollars as a tourist, not a crew member on RAN II. Where the other children aboard the Swedish Armada charged as well? Shame on them!
