  1. Been enjoying your channel for years. In your design discussion, consider the advantages of a modern ketch or yawl. They are proven all weather safe designs for couples and single handed sailing (Slocum's Spray and Amels),but modern builders are not making them. The lower mast makes them ICW friendly and easier for older, less able bodied sailers. Your thoughts?

  2. In my opinion a 18 ft to 23 ft boat is big enough boat for me.

Considering that boat price (and maintenance costs) doubles for every around …

    * … 5 ft for the simple, cheap boat with a commercial/workboat finish
*… or doubles as little as every 2 to 3 extra ft for the fancy all-the-gear 7-layers-of-varnished-wood and-the-likes boat.

… it's no wonder why people think that boats are out-of-reach / pipe-dream expensive – if they go for a 40+ ft new boat.

According to Rick Page in his book he wrote that compared to a 25 ft boat – a 50 ft boat is around 15 to 20 times more expensive in price and maintenance costs
In other words, the marketing guys want you to believe you need a long boat, preferable one of theirs.

  3. You Two Are Awesome! And this article makes me excited about something that has been in my mind for many years! I have been in the Marine industry for over 40 years, have had 4 Boatyards and have experienced a millennia of just what this channel and you two are now making available to a market of people that haven't really given it a good thought! Enjoyed watching your last passage and though a bit concerning for you and another experience of the power and Majesty of The Sea, and rough weather, I knew that your boat would handle more than you two as I have watched pretty much every one of your makeovers and work since your purchase. And was happy to see you design a boat that worked to serve your needs and at the same time go Anywhere! That's a Biggie. Mass marketed boats will never give what your vessel gas given you, there are a rare few that are definitely out there, just not Mass produced or too expensive and for lots of other reasons. You have definitely hit on a subject that hasn't really been answered in a large Platform as we now have with world wide internet. Great Idea!

  4. So you’re getting into the custom boat business…great!…I think this is a very exciting time in history for young innovators. the advancement of technology in the arena of computer generated intuitive design, 3 d printing, incredible choices for composites, and computer model testing, could actually make custom products like this available to many more consumers for a very affordable price…
It’s very likely that you have more hands on practical knowledge of world cruising than many marine architects. That aspect along with your experience and training in spacial design could make you a very good partner for a competent marine architect…
Wish you great success in your venture!

  5. Travel isn’t about the boat but those social media crap is all about the boat. I sailed my Tahiti Ketch for 7 years in the 80’s using celestial navigation and that was adventure, today that doesn’t exist anymore

  6. … and just like that you are into Marketing….because that is how many a product life starts: find out what people want. Cheers from a fellow marketeer😉

  7. Electric trimaran with autonomous wings sail big hydrogen tank , big solar roof and 3 decks levels the low one will be for food production all kind of vegetables and storage middle level for living and water activities third level for 4 bed rooms the roof of this level should be made out solar glass that opens up in a shape of V for each room to sleep under the stars that way i will make hydrogen and sell it to earn money from sailing and the wing sail should made out of material that make water out of air for free every day without any energy consumption or technology failure. all the tech of this dream is out there in different fields water is made in the desert out air and moisture, aquaponic farming is there. wing sail too and solar roof out of light strong glass or any transparent strong material and the 2 side in and out of the bout body will have shark skin .

  8. It should be possible to custom design/ built everything, e.g. car, bicycle, computer. Although some companies offer modular design which satisfies custom builts partially.
With a custom design and modularity one would only need to buy one, maybe two cars, computers or what else in a life time. And not ever couple years.

  9. I thought about this for three years. Three years ago I had a stroke. I’ve always had dreams of getting a sailboat when I retired. I still have dreams but I have been thinking about finding a boat with modifications to fit my handicap needs. The best boat I found is the MacGregor 26. I like the fact that if I need to work on the mast I could lower the mast to come to me. The only problem with the McGregor is it seems a little too flimsy to take down to the Caribbean. My options would be to have my own boat made closely mirroring a McGregor. Of course I would want an electric motor with an eight battery bank. I would not want a keel, just to give me the option to anchor in shallow water. I would also want everything low-tech because unlike you I’m not very technical. so anything with simplified answers like a manual toilet would be good for me. It’s nice you had an episode about this because to be honest, there are a couple if ideas I want to incorporate into my boat that I’ve garnered from watching your videos. Thank you for the adventure. Oh, and thank you for the hope.

  10. I don't see why it's necessary to ask everyone what the think or like. Make the design choices you feel are correct for the boat you want to make.

  11. the Van der Valk beachclub 660 ,no flybridge ,with the NEW Lazzara lsx rear end with the "wings" and hidden anchor. minimalist bow with small jacuzzi. thats it perfect for me and mine .

  12. Fresh out of architecture school… that is so cool …. no wonder you've been so good at all the stuff you've been doing😊

  13. "Bland" though? I rather like the open, airy, light-filled, light-colored interiors of modern yacht design. It's quite a contrast from the darker interiors of yesterday (like Delos). Or trendier designs like how SLV's interior on the Rapido is currently mocked up to be.

  14. The same with movies, software and really everything now, what if we didn't let all the marketing people build in 200% sales security into everything. That shit is straight up robbery.
