  12. The next time you're in the C&D canal. stop at Chesapeake City at Schaefer's Canal House. Drinks and dinner. When ship traffic traverses the canal, Schaefer's lowers the lights in the restaurant, and inform you of ship registry and cargo they are carrying, and sometimes who the captain is.

    When you drive north from Baltimore to Philadelphia, I-495 sits beside the canal. To be driving up the road then see a huge ship coming directly at you is a bit harrowing if you've never seen it before.
