1. I'm new to the A to A project and even newer here. Just had to say how much I love your videography style and narration. Watching you describe these materials, it's clear how much you appreciate their quality and history. Just subscribed and look forward to more. Thank you!

  2. I might be in the small minority, but I am neutral on the video. Lots of work on refinishing a single letter that won't be needed for a year. Just hope we see more engineering and building before doing finishes.

  3. I must admit to cringing a little when the lovely old patina was coming off the “V”, but it’s a matter of preference I suppose. I do wonder if a good way to thoroughly and evenly clean the letters might be to use a vibratory tumbler and cleaning media that are used in cleaning brass when reloading ammunition.

  4. Watching you work is an extraordinarily satisfying. Your work is beautiful, it's perfection, and I love it. Quite frankly, I can't get enough. Your level of craftsmanship and attention to detail can't be tough.

  5. But this won't be no more a Atkinson Design… I have criticized Steve also for scrapping down Victoria. She's been in pretty good condition and it's been a crime to me. Don't like their approach.

  6. Clean the Verdigris off Brass, Copper and Bronze, put the metal in a plastic bucket with a tin or so of cooked chopped Tomatoes, stir and leave for 30 mins. Wash off clean, do not eat the tomatoes!

  7. I have built 4 strip built boats. It is not hard to make an 8 foot into a 9 foot boat by changing the spacing between the building stations. Equal spacing maintains the same proportions as planned.

  8. Watching with great interest! When I kept my plastic sailboat in the Channel Islands (California) harbor I had the pleasure of drooling over some gorgeous traditional wooden sailboats. Love the classics and know you'll be creating another one here.

An EASY way to clean verdigris off of brass and bronze is to put it in a solution of warm water and a little citric acid as is used for canning fruit. Two to four tablespoons of citric acid in a gallon of water at 140°F to 160°F will remove the corrosion in short order and will not harm the base metal. People that reload ammunition use citric acid to clean oxidized cartridges all the time. I've seen deep brown colored brass turn bright in a matter of seconds, effortlessly.

  9. Oh my, this is going to be exciting. First Herreshoff and now an Atkins. What a great project to take on. This is going to be so much fun to look forward to seeing coming to life.

  10. Bob, I have to be absolutely honest in saying most of the YouTube channels, with the exception of Acorn to Arabella, Tally Ho, and your superb channel, are without question click bait and or garbage. Most of the people with YouTube channels haven't got a clue what their presenting or talking about and frankly they don't really care!. For them it's exclusively about creating 'content' and money. However, I'm very pleased you and Steve Denette hooked-up together for the completion of A2A. It's nice to see boatwrights sharing their professional talents with one another and we the viewers.

  11. The Gibson custom shop would be very interested in old growth Honduran mahogany. It was used to make to make the bodies of the original Les Paul guitars. Some say to tone comes from that wood.
