What about the Dutchcraft DB25 tender that has been around for a while? To me it looks like a brilliant tender, all electric 32kn for 75minutes, capable of beach landing and very configurable
We need to rent a carfor our plan movie refuse
David, I can see electric boats as tenders because insurance companies don't like lots of petrol sloshing about on deck/in garages. Can't see them as primary yachts yet outside a handful of charging points in the Med and US.
very interesting topic. I never get enough of new technology being used in the 'old' world environment
Ive been meaning to contact you. There is a youtube vid showing ten energy efficient boats and one of them is a large yacht using hybrid / solar, and Hydrogen creation, massively extending range. So for a yacht like a Bering 77, with a 7000NM range.. this could easily be extended out to 21'000 range minimum if not significantly more. I have been contacting a few boat builders (I have not spoken to Alexi from Bering yet), there is hesitancy when I mention modifications I want as in hydrogen/solar/diesel hybrids, also using copper alloy on open drains and AC systems (copper will not grow mold or bacteria and is good conductor so can be made smaller with wider fin spacing to allow easier cleaning). the big health things with living on the water are humidity related problems such as mold and bacteria (like chlamydia pneuminiae). The ideal humidity is 45% as 50% is where mold starts to grow on any available surface. Adding chemicals to inhibit mold is just more endocrine disruptors or inflammatory chemicals. Why do I still want to live on the water ? Because it is relaxing (Stress is the No.1 cause of illness) and of course.. the negative ions blowing in from the water are amazing for your health and wellbeing. But back to fuel.. the B80 for example with its 47K liter fuel tank.. would cost over 100K to fill up. So of course we need to greatly extend the cruise capacity and not rely purely on diesel. However Solar is imperfect as it only works in ideal conditions not bad weather or at night. Wind.. well you might as well get a sail yacht if you want to go that direction. We have some great tech, and it needs to make it to the Yacht industry at every size.
Hi David. The technology and innovations the industry can build upon for cleaner yachting. Great video thanks 😊
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
Hmmm, has David done a vault from fossil mega yachts to foiling hydro cats? What's next?
hello friend I would like you to make some comments about my YACHTS it is in the metaverse for people with few resources totally friendly to the environment 🙂
"Hydrogen is a clean fuel"
No, it's not. It is not a point source emitter, true. But producing hydrogen is about a dirty as it is possible to be. Most hydrogen is produced by steam reformation of natural gas. It produces lots of nasty waste. It's technically possible to produce hydrogen by electrolysis of water but that requires prodigious quantities of electricity that we simply don't have.
You'll never power a large yacht off solar and dreams. Any yacht that needs to be at sea for days or weeks will be ran off of fuel.
Electric boat with Lithium batteries are incredibly dangerous and stupid. If you suffer a battery fire they're basically unstoppable. They'll end up like turbine boats, virtually uninsurable. Who wants 5-7 figure toy that you can't ensure, you'd be better off gambling with penny stocks. Plus most these boat runs for less than a half day at speed.
The problem with electric boats of course is you are burning fossil fuels to get the power to the boat. So in some ways, it's no,different than the hybrid system on some yachts like Bering and Baglietto(sp). The diesel generator is burning to make power for the electric generator to power the engine. Although in Bering's case, they have solar panels. I think hydrogen is the next wave, but honestly I see a system being developed where regular sea water is taken on and the hydrogen oxygen bond is split, and both elements burned as fuel to power generators. The problem of course in splitting them is that they become lethal gases so that is something to overcome as well. Gellified saltwater to use as ionic engine fuel has appeared is science fiction books for years now. There are ionic engines powering satellites, but they produce little thrust. I think the combination of solar and wind(sails) are the best cleanest option. If they made solar panel sails, that would be amazing.
Yes; pls arrange that interview. Fantastic! Mahalo
Flettner rotor 'sails' are pretty interesting. Sometimes called a magnus rotor. You should look at those. While they don't necessarily solve using fossil fuel for combustion, they do in fact cut down on the amount you would have to use. Are they unseemly and mess up the sleek sexy lines of a Nuvolari Lenard or Donald Starkey? Absolutely, but could be a design by Bhusan Powar Design who designed the Zion Black Hole concept yacht or the designer for Lattittude yachts that did the gold 79M trimaran design (forget his name, apologies). They could certainly come come up with a design concept around them. Maybe even figure out how to power them with clean energy. Certainly something to look at and they have been and are still in use today.
The livestream would be awesome. Very interesting what they are doing.

Hi David just want to say how much I enjoy watching your videos. I've never been interested in boats/ yachts etc and will probably never be able to afford one or charter one but your enthusiasm for the business of Yachting is infectious. You seem like a truly genuine guy and that's why everyone in the industry likes you (as I saw from the Cannes & Monaco videos). Love your videos. Keep them coming.
Interviewing the CEO of VITA is a great idea (3:44), David. I met Rory at the Energy Boat Challenge, too, and would love to ask more questions. For example, how his previous experience as a yacht broker helps him build this new business as CEO.
