1. Great video! I wish you could have the days bill clicking upward, in lower right corner, as you jump in the taxi, in this office or that… a running total. 🙂 I'm not sure how you would pull that off, but I'm really curious to hear how much each thing costs. Thanks!

  2. If you add up the taxis, hotels, dining out (as well as your valuable time) it is way cheaper to pay for the agent. Lesson learned folks…you get what you pay for (and don’t).

  3. How soon after completing the check out, do you have to depart? (Legally and logistically, do you think)

I suppose if you planned the check out processes as part of your days, e.g. zarpa one day, bank another day, nothing for a day, port captain day 4 or 5, it might be less frustrating. But, then it might be a pain working all that into the tourism days.

I wonder if you could get all (most of?) the checkout stuff done on, say, wednesday, and not leave until Friday? Or is someone watching you on the last few steps to ensure you beat feet?

  4. I was listening while working, so maybe I missed it, or am just ignorant. But what is keeping you from just pulling anchor and shoving off?
Will they track you down or something?

  5. I Believe You're Getting the Runaround, Because the 'Agent' That You Could Have Hired, is Sponsored by the Country. I Dunno…$350 Doesn't Seem That Bad Now, Does It? You Could Have Been Chillin on the boat, and Your Agent Pulls Up with All the Required Paperwork. 😏

  6. For a country that makes a lot if money on tourism they sure havent streamlined the leaving country process. Found yall through Delos, youre a great couple to adventure with watching you cross the pacific currently glad y'all made it through your colds.

  7. Welcome to Costa Rica the land of red tape. My sister and her family has lived in that country for over 30 years and I have visited there 8-9 times and so I have a pretty good idea of what it can be like there. The people are generally really friendly and willing to help tourists out when they are encountering some issues that those of us in Canada and the USA take for granted as being one stop and you are on your way. Costa Rica is rarely one stop and you are out the door when it comes to getting all your paper work in order. You really need to be a patient person because what you One Life sailors experienced was not unusual at all for Costa Rica. My Spanish isn't very good and I really wish it was better when I am in Costa Rica but even then I have some serious doubts that things would go a whole lot smoother. The land where their motto of Costa Rica Es Pure' Vida can be very charming but one must always remember that they do things quite a bit different from what us North Americans are accustomed to. There is always Manana (tomorrow)to the Ticos and Ticas of Costa Rica.

  8. I guess Costa Rica really does not want cruisers to visit them and spend money there. Knowing this I imagine a lot of cruisers will just write off Costa Rica for good and never go there. Talk about bureaucracy gone wild! Yikes!

  9. You learned a lesson. They all work together & if you don't hire an agent they make it as hard as possible for you to clear out. Your video was very interesting to me as in 1959 I helped put a brand new destroyer in commission, ( DD 951 Turner Joy. On our shake down cruise we stopped at Puntarenas. There hadn't been a ship in there for many many years. It was just a small village then, did have one bar. Sure changed, course that was 65 years ago.

  10. No way I'll ever do to CR. It's obscene the maze you both had to run. I'm guessing they expect you to hire an agent (their friends). That's why the non-desript buildings etc..I would've expected better that this from Costa Rica. Shame on them!
