I lost my Grandma a couple months ago as well and we had been prepared for a long time but there's no amount of time that could prepare you for losing such a special person. Dude!!! Just make segmented guide rails on both panes and a removable stop that limits travel to the right. Pull the stop, slide the panes to full-travel right (where the segmented guide rails can slip thru gaps in the frame guide rails) then yank the windows in. The empty window frame will now be your escape hatch.
