  1. @ LEE .. Don't have your aluminum sand blasted, have it shot blasted. A shot blasting machine has your part inside a heavy steel cage that turns slowly as steel shot is blasted into the cage at high velocity. This cleans the part like new and compacts the surface for a much better finish than sandblasting. This is the way all alternators and such are treated before rebuild.

  2. As a retired paint technician, i do not fancy powder coatings. You will have to use a polyester powder for outside use, wich gets very hard after curing and therefor very brittle. Machanical damages are therefore created easyliy. I would leave it raw. More over its the cheapest way to go. Good luck👍

  3. Hi guys. Regarding the hatches. You could prime the Ali with either etch primer or Zinc chromate. But I was thinking a longer lasting result might be to oven bake a finishing paint. Usually they are 2 pot paints. 1 option is Cadilac Paint. Cadilac being the brand not the car.

  4. Clean then up give them a sand and hit them with the buffer and some autosol. They will come up a treat. Just make sure you can replace the rubbers first. Otherwise wasted effort. Learnt the hard way. 😉

  5. Do your self a favor and get some fiberglass retaining wall pins and use as is to scrape rounded areas or grind to a chisel point for flat areas it cleans really well and does not cut into the gel coat like metal scrapers when it gets dull reshape with a piece of sand paper. You guys know how hard silicone rubber is to remove from fiberglass without damage ! The rods are great for that

  6. I’m 44 here in Norway, nobody used helmets when I was a teenager and everybody grew up just fine (better then these generations it looks like nowadays 🙈) so don’t worry.😂Good to see some family’s can live a healthy good life👍🏼

  7. I agree with others that can't believe that your channel is not the most watch channel on YouTube if it was there would be .uch more happiness in the world!!! Great job and great videos and family!! Thank so much for sharing your life.

  8. Hello Catalpa crew,
I have 4 of the same cast Bomar hatches on my Pearson. I painted them white, so they are cooler to the touch after baking in the afternoon sun. Paint is easy to touch up when scratched, unlike powder coat. I also replaced the Perspex lenses with star board with non skid moulded in. I am of the opinion any horizontal surface on a boat should be able to be walked upon, and with the additional bracing bars on the old Bomars, plus non skid starboard, works a treat for me.
    Cheers,
    Mike.

  9. G'day Mate's
Mate how about you rub lanolin into that pitting in the hatches and yes, go raw,
It'll out live any cheaper hatches and you were correct about blowout in yhe pits with powder coating etc
Keep Smiling, no matter what, Cheers, Rosco in Brizzy

  10. ….. Yup! …. nude is best …. everything else will chip and you live life on your boat so the will be bumps and chips .. good choice … impressed your tush can still handle riding on the bars …. curious what Fed-X would have cost, overnight is their specialty ….. what's this we heard mention of but we did not spend time in the engine room …. you are going to love the instapot, had a pressure cooker and moved up to an instapot, why did I wait so long …. thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger ….

  11. before you get too far in with the hatches make sure you can get the proper seals – we did 4 (similar size) couldnt get the seals for love or money = pain in the butt and now left with a pain in the butt as they still leak

  12. The pitting.. grind them out and then tig weld.. basically use the alu rods as a fairing compound.. Did this some years back and then had them anodized, no issues so far…

  13. Get etch primer before painting or your in a process of contious maintenance issue. You have removed the protecting anodizing layer.
    Good luck guys 😃

  14. you recently did a review or commented on a drone that can land and take off in water, what brand/model was that? Keep on tackling the chores and boiat worx.
