1. Congrats ! and thanks for sharing the adventure. It looks like you anchored right in the middle of SF, in aquatic park! Now that you've spent a season in MX, what's the next plan ?

  2. Congratulations achieving your first milestone. Be proud that you handled the roughest of the NW sailing. You’ll soon wonder why your journey ahead is so easy. 🍾 Fair Sailing from the Puget Sound.

  3. Great video guys! It really brings back memories, not all of them pleasant, that really is a nasty stretch of ocean. Rob, ex of Azura Kai here, I didn't realize we were in the Aquatic Park at the same time as you, but there we are anchored astern of you. So cool!

  4. I am totally confused; I last saw you a few days ago in Portugal. How did you get to Seattle? The usual Royal Navy way to get off a wind-pressed dock is to be secured by the forward spring line, motor forward with the rudder toward the dock. His will push your stern out, and when you feel that it is far enough out, let the spring line go and reverse further out until you have enough room to go forward. Your for’d hand should have brought the spring line aboard smartly. Fair winds!

  5. Loved the Drake's Bay footage. We also waited out some weather there on our way to the Sea of Cortez.
Did you find any Mamey (southern Mexico's winter treat) after we last saw you in the La Cruz anchorage?
Birgit made us an new flavourite: Mamey and Mango smoothie!
We're driving south early next week for the Guaymas boatyard. Hope to see you this winter.
    Regards, Mark & Birgit.

  6. Hi guys! Your filming skills are epic! Nicely done. I’m looking forward to your adventures kicking in again this winter?? Cheers from SFO bay!!

  7. Congrats on successfully negotiating very challenging stretch of coastline. It's nice that the Rogue Brewery is so convenient to the marina in Newport, OR. But it maybe contributes to some seasickness aftermath due to partially (or fully) hungover crews departing Newport! Conditions are usually worse further north, but going south Point Sur and Point Conception can also be quite challenging and deserve much care in passage planning.

  8. I don't know who needs to hear this! Stop relying on the government and savings. Invest some of your money if you want financial stability, having several streams of income is not a bad idea

  9. Loved the video!! Just curious what you guys did about Disco’s potty time during the rough seas? My husband and I plan on taking our doggos cruising too so I’m curious what the solutions are there 😊
    Fair winds!

  10. I sailed from Newport OR to Mexico off shore a long way off shore. Refused to stop in the country of California as I totally dispise that Marxist country. Remained in Mexico then on south. Put the boat up for the summer and flew to Vietnam for 4 months. Vietnam doesn't have marinas etc.

  11. Just wondering about your autopilot setup. The nights were hard on you, you seemed to be outside all the time. Do you not have autopilot? If so, are you not comfortable updating your watch every ten minutes or so? Seems to me having the AP on, and spending more time below woulds be less taxing. Pop up the companionway, review the horizon, check sails, wind, course, etc and reset the timer for another 10 minutes.

  12. Great work you two! (Plus Disco). Love your very approachable, down to earth content. I like mechanical content, my son loves the fishing content. Thanks for taking us with you, greetings from Germany

  13. Self Steering what a Dream
    1984 I sailed from S Fl. to Tahiti on a 32ft X 9ft wide sailboat.
Our self steering was a weather vane and ropes adjusted on the tiller
Bringing back memories for a 63yr. man

  14. Great job getting down that coast in sporty conditions and with a dog! One piece of advice from an old geezer who has been cruising for 37 years. Never say "we got it made, the worst is behind us now" because Mother Ocean can bitch slap you any minute of any day. Maintain your vigilance at all times!

  15. I don't even sailboat, but always look on in awe when see them on water. Had an awesome time watching your video and subscribed to keep up on your adventures! Stay safe!

  16. I didnt see much use of the windvane. Did you guys not use it much? I used my monitor the entire way down and it worked like a dream which surprised me with the trip being all downwind. Some of those drone shots and shots with the sun in the frame are absolutely cinematic looking!!! and i like that winch idea mack!!!!

  17. Thanks for the video! We never saw 40kt on our trip south but we had 35 a few times. I think I blocked it out until now, cause watching this just brought back the memories of all the extreme motion and vomit on the side deck! One trick we use on Fern to get off the dock in wind like that is to take a line attached at the stern, then bring it forward and loop it to a cleat or bullrail on the dock near midship, and hold on to the other end on deck (make sure you loop it in a way that's easy to pull back in). Ryan will put the boat in reverse while I hold tight to the line from the deck, standing about even with the point where the line is looped on the dock. The stern pulls in while the bow comes out. When the bow gets far enough out, turn the rudder hard over, release the line and put the throttle strong forward to keep the bow out before the wind pushes it back in and get out of there. Can't wait for gin cocktails on the beach somewhere in Mexico next year!

  18. You can use a spring line to get off the dock in those situations. You tie a bumper at the back corner of the boat with a spring line from aft to the front tied to the dock. Put the boat in reverse and it will pull the front off the dock using the bumper as a fulcrum. Then you turn away from the dock and put it in forward and have a dock hand release and throw the line to you.
