1. Dude I really love your channel and this series! I'm out for a boat atm (actually loved the Bavaria 37) and I will book an hour consultation with you to learn if this is the correct boat for me. Also love that you don't take 200 $/h.. 60$ is very reasonable and I'll gladly pay that to get your expertis! See you very soon my man 🙂

  2. That bristol 45.5 is beautiful but a beta marine 50 is hilarious underpowered for a boat that size. I would be surprised if she hits 6 kts at full power and into any kind of wind you could be looking at a dangerous situation.

  3. Not sure how much you may have touched on this but it would be interesting to see videos on Nonsuch, gaff rigs, junk rigs, etc. I think some "out of the box" boats would be cool. love the videos!

  4. First, what's your shirt say, in full?

Second, I've fallen in love with your boat's slightly taller sister, the Oceanis 54. Every once-in-a-while I find myself just sort of idly, you know, casing banks or jewelry stores to rob, so I can maybe get one of these boats.

Third, why wasn't the rudder bearing tube run, in fibreglass, up to the bottom of that stuffing box? That "mount it at the end of a run of radiator hose" just seems an open invitation to having it seize to the rudder stock. I mean, why wouldn't it? Set up the way it is, it has little incentive to ever move with respect to that rudder stock, and so seizing seem inevitable. I don't think I've ever heard of a propeller shaft where the stuffing box was not mounted to the top of the shaft tube. (Though, I'd have to allow that those engage in much higher RPMs than a rudder shaft ought.)

  5. so, found your channel today and already binged my way from 60k to 160k. As you would, when the boat is on the hard. Mine is rather at the other end of the spectrum, a Sirius 26 (Streuer, not the Canadian one) and that also sort of defines what my current dream boat is: a Sirius 310 DS or a 35DS, with the 35 mainly being desireable since the longer hull makes for nicer proportions.
The beauty of those boats is, that through the decksaloon layout, they offer the living room of a 40ft/45ft boat on 31/35ft and still are considered to be sailing really well. Here in the Baltic, choices of marinas shrink, when you go above 40ft and 6ft draft, especially so among the Danish islands

  6. Was surprised to hear that both the Bristol and Amel only had 50 hp diesels. Pretty low for 45 foot boats, especially the Bristol with its heavy displacement. Otherwise, both look to be nice boats for their age.

  7. Love to watch the occasional episode but you made a subscriber when you spoke about "letting" your partner go ashore in the Bahamas during your firearms onboard episode. Real men know that they can empower and support their partner. BZ to you Sir.

  8. Nice video I’m a fan of the 41.1 though I definitely can’t argue about that 45 and I don’t wanna project boat I want something I can go sailing on I’m just trying to get it for around that price may be a little bit more just worried about charter boats being too worn out appreciate the information just hunting for my yacht dream

  9. Ted Hood. hit the sweet spot with the Bristol 45.5. Perfect for the Bahamas and well as off shore. Fast , comfortable and safe. The in mast furling not only makes sail handling easy, but it's all done from the safety of the cockpit . The Bristol quality is impressive. The chainplates tie into 3" stringers. The cabin sole is 1 1/4" thick. Every thing was done right. The 45.5 is just the right size. Not too big so to need a large crew. Not so small you feel you are camping out. I've own 2 Bristols a 45.5 and a 54.4. The 45.5 is the more manageable boat and has plenty of living and storage. The 54 was a nice boat but I prefer the 45.

  10. Two options with in-mast furling. Great idea for short handing, but what happens when the furling gear craps out and you need to shorten sail?
Also, why’s a ketch best for ocean passages. I would have thought all the extra rigging would be a pain in the %#$$ (although I’m thinking short handed).

  11. I'm a bit of an old-fashioned guy when it comes to yachts and in my wish list is the flying 35 designed by uffa fox
but if money was not an issue I am rather taken by any of the spirt yachts over 40 foot
if only I was not a boat builder and sailing instructor I might of had the cash to buy a dream yacht
