5. It's one thing being a maday, it's another wanting a tow. I was under the understanding as a sailor that the Canadian coastguard has a no tow policy, only if it's a life or death situation.

   I'm not sure why the coast guard is spending tax dollars for sailing vessels who are entering themselves. They should have paid for a commercial tow to dock. I could imagine the cost to the tax payer with a coastguard boat of that size.

6. sounds like a very naive crew if you did not expect to go upwind AND to meet weather lows in the North Atlantic travelling West!!!
