to be clear, I've never run a motor on transmission fluid but… I rebuild engines for my cars & trucks all the time and transmission fluid is my go to for removing carbon from old engine parts.
A piston that's been soaking in transmission fluid for a few days will look brand new.
When you drain the oil take note of the color/consistency, I'll bet it's thick/black from all the carbon that was removed.
Your "in a pinch" solution probably really helped your engine!
