Watching this the day before Yakuza Pirates In Hawaii drops
This is a fabulous analysis, and I would love to quote it in my own writing (with full attribution, of course)
I feel like Nishitani had the biggest effect on majima after he died, since Nishitani went out fighting despite being shot multiple times and enjoying what was left of his life, I personally believe that the mad dog persona is homage to Nishitani's redemption and sacrifice, since his mad dog persona shares alot with Nishitani's chaotic personality
In Pirate Yakuza he loses his memory but still maintains his wacky persona. Not sure how that works.
It's his wild side turned up to 11. He's clearly got the same traits that he did in Yakuza 0, you see glimpses throughout the series.
I think that at this point, HE thinks he has to stay this Mad Dog for most of the time. At this point that's been his outward personality for over 30 years 😂

I know I’m late but what makes this video truly genius is the fact that majima’s irizumi(back tattoo) is a hanya MASK. They’re often masks worn by stage actors to portray evil but also sad characters depending on how the character is viewed. Sound familiar?
Watching this after playing the latest game (2025) Yakuza Pirate in Hawaii makes us see that he is a truly nice person at his core but that the mad dog is at the time truly a part of him now

In one of majima's kareoke songs it shows him and makoto (I believe that its in their heads anyway) but it seems that even in pirate yakuza he STILL thinks about Makoto
I didn't like Majima at first unti i played zero. I think Majima played the fool so he can propel Kiryu to greater heights. He knows Kiryu's personality and doesn't want him to end up like himself like in 0. He's a tragic hero.
I think Majima just does this to hide all the pain he's been through. And to stay away from Makoto, if he remained the same he would feel the need to get close to her. The mad dog is another person.

Part of the brilliance of Yakuza 0 is that they still maintained the mystery of Majima. You learned so much about him but really nothing. He is still an enigma.
"Ya! Ya! Take it!" is a crazy quote to hear without context.
I mean, after Yakuza 0 he went nuts, yes, but he wasn't like someone who would say "Kiryu-chan, you should kill street punks who attack so, let me show you how you doing it"
So yeah, they should put something in between Yakuza 0 and kiwami to make it have sence
Yea right. The truth is they rewrote his character in 0, but to connect it to the shit they did in later games, they make it 'haha it was planned all along!'.
It's pretty genius how Yakuza 0 shows Majima starting out putting on an act of the perfectly polite "Lord of the Night", being such a jarring difference from how we know him, to the point that we assume that's the "real" him and something must've happened to drive him crazy or something
Only to eventually see that he decided to replace it with his "Mad Dog" persona. Essentially unchanged from how we first saw him, only now he's just wearing a different mask
Loooove coming back to this after pirate yakuza in hawaii im going to choose to pretend 0 directors doesnt exist and just say pirate yakuza was the last game so far and it ends in him developing a new personality becoming a new better person but like that post credits im not gonna say what happens just incase anyone hasnt played but jesus christ thats the majima we knew in 0
0 completely derailed and retconed Majima's character. Made him a saint. I liked him more as a ruthless enigmatic thug in ogirinal Yakuza.
