2. Shame that you didn't get out in 37 knots, Put 3 reefs in and a couple of wraps in the genoa and it would have been amazing. My boat, a Pescott 11.7 which weighed 4 tonnes, was a smaller version of the Looping (with daggerboards). I took her out in 35-40 knots and 4m seas for a sea trial and it was clear… the boat could handle more than I could but gave me huge confidence in her and her ability to tack off a lee shore. Finally, make sure you explore Pittwater (north of Sydney) its fantastic at this time of year as long as the southerlies die down. Phil

8. What great advice this is. It is a bit like driving a 2000 lb car with 3000 hp. Yeah. be really careful with that throttle. Or a truck with 1000HP? Those exist too and make towing really a joy. But the traction at the rear? Yeah, watch your right foot. It can burn more than tires. So sailing is the same? But a lot more complicated? I got the memo. Do I even want to go sailing? Yes. But the mid-performance range is more to my liking thanks to your insight. Breaking a mast? Too easy when you are having too much fun. Tipping her over, I can easily see that happening. I remember the story of Christ White getting his boat back and fixing up up after the drifting around the Atlantic upside down. Yeah. Mid performance is better. What is that anyway. Simple equation from drag racing. HP to weight ratio. But there is hull design and the ease of handling the sails and.. yes. Boats are more complex than dragsters. But to start with sail area to weight ratio in combo with sail area to displacement ratio. What others do you suggest?

13. Well, being a car guy, this sailing vessel story parallels controlling a vehicle with higher horsepower on pavement.
    For some, just "knowing" the power is there is enough, and consciously knowing when to give it a little gas can be enjoyed.
    There are others who don't know what even 500hp can bring to the equation, and we see results nearly every day in the news.
    This is a fantastic video. These sailors' intensity and awareness while telling the realities of this "hot rod", make my ears perk right up that "this is not horsepower to be taken lightly!". Thank all four of you.

15. Good reason to own a mono hull I think because most 50 foot monos have mo issue in 30 plus knots.

17. The Looping 50 is very interesting, and very tempting. However, I'm more into monohuls with integral keels – such as the Kraken 50. I suspect that in the event of being caught in a severe storm, the Kraken would be a whole lot safer than any of these high performance machines. And, the Kraken is not exactly a sluggish boat, but is built very sturdily, and would not be likely to capsize, let alone to turn turtle, or to 'go down the mine' which could happen if pushing a performance boat such as this too hard.

    Whilst most sailing would be done in moderate winds, nonetheless storms can come along quickly – especially in the Mediterranean. That's why my choice would be for a monohull with reasonable performance but with an integral keel.

My experience is with horses and this is the same advice I give to new owners, it’s never give the green (aka young) athletic thoroughbred to the new, nervous rider, it’s just too much horse; instead give them the slow and steady draft horse. As relatively new sailors I’d like to think we intentionally picked a middle ground boat, a solid, well built production boat that can move more than a lagoon but won’t fly out of control like a twitchy Schionning (we picked a Seawind 1160 deluxe, which to continue my horse analogy feels a bit like a quarter horse, a tough go anywhere horse with a bit of pep as needed but that ain’t gonna kill you if you stuff up)

20. Hey Guys, great to see and hear about the Looping 50, it was a shame you had too much wind to sail the boat! If you guys get the chance can you go aboard her and actually sail the vessel? It would be awesome to see what it takes to put a reef in going upwind or downwind, as well as other aspects of keeping her from running away from those sailing her. That boat looks a lot like an Atlantic cat 🙂

23. It is kind of strange you being so circumspect about the new boat. You explained it well enough and I remember seeing some sellers being bothered by the whole YouTube experience. But do it the way it has to be done. Your YT audience shouldn't get in the way of buying a boat. I, for one, support you in making it all happen happily and seamlessly.

27. I prefer heavy and steady for a world cruiser. Its just safe, less complicated, more comfortable and alot more FUN becuase I am not worried that the boat is going to get out of control by a rouge wave, bad weather, wind changes or not reefing in time. I like to ENJOY the journey and absorb the world around me. Its very comforting knowing the boat is strong and capable and more than able to handle anything mother nature throws at me.
