  1. Nice Ep, Did you clean oil spinner separator above the oil filter , put some fuel doctor in the fuel it mite clean the injectors a bit,, with the crossover pipe broken the motor mite of been dusted and be down on compression, I broke a engine mount up the cape one year on the OTT that intern broke the crossover then dusted the motor, but I still drove it for years afterwards Noticed no differance in power , just bit harder to start on very cold mornings.

  2. Looking at the snot on the tappets the rings might be a tad gummed up, just give it some time and a couple of quick oil changes. It's not as soft as the 79 and a bit of blow by isn't the end of the world.

  3. Be sure to change your coolant thermostat if it's been sitting a long time. Don't be tempted to not run a thermostat as they run too cold and rattle like chaff cutter. Keep up Great work.

  4. I think the rings on the pistons would be so full of crud for it's age. Add a litre of kerosine to the oil and gently run it around your yard for ten minutes and then drop your oil again. A good dose of fuel additives in a few tanks also to help clean and free up the rings. For it's age that blow by is not that bad some 200s have that much and is regarded as fairly normal. Kerosine is what engine flush is. Top video mate really enjoying the project. Thanks and have a good Xmas you and yours.

  5. A good trick I have used over the years is pull the radiator out place face to the ground spouts up put cap on and fill with Coca Cola
Couple of 2 litre bottles will do it
    Leave over night
Flush with garden hose and re fit
    Does the cleaning trick
I had a heater core I did recently – was blocked solid … and this method fixed it !!!

  6. You've probably checked but If you haven't have a look at your heater core too. Nothing worse than springing a leak there in a cleaned up cab. As for your fuel and oil probs I'll suggest you have a look at this video. https://youtu.be/SUFqnfFllYI. Smith lubricants, awesome products I've been using for many, many years,.good quality and work. I've put his treatments in the motor, diffs, transfer case and transmission. John is a stand up bloke too! Based in Texas, Queensland.

  7. After you flushed oil and satisfied its clean , then you say blow by is bad , yeah it wasn't excessive, so try using hot steam not water spray ,, steam only ,, have engine hot and let steam be drawn st8 into throttle body while running engine at 3,000 rpm for 15 minutes it might very well free up gummed rings and then they might keep oil below them , if engine bangs or knocks slow or stop the steam , expect it to stutter a little if water comes out exhaust pipe and engine running then it's cleaning it , but do drop oil again after , or check for water

  8. You’ve been busy shopping 👍
Great fun a, keep flushing that cooling system then when you think it clean record that radiator as it’ll be clogged with rust
I had an FJ40 that I put a 350 in back when I was an apprentice carpenter, it kept me broke😅😅
Could just be valve guides ?

  9. Great show but mate to make that vehicle safe and reliable it would be best to pull the motor and rebuild, flush out the gearbox and drain the diffs. It’s a Toyota not that expensive. Recore or replace the radiator and all hoses.
No point being far from home and the Ute dies. #just my thoughts

  10. Add a oil flush concerate before you drop the oil removes most of the sludge and with the fuel use injector cleaner , there is a water fuel separator under chassis right side of car hope this will help.

  11. That old 2H engine will run like that forever. Change the oil and maybe put in some “ Cost effective maintenance “ brand oil flush. Did that to a 1hz in similar condition years ago. 10 years later and is still good

  12. Bit of blow by but’ll keep running I think, the smoke definitely could be caused by running rich, id definitely get the fuel pump tuned and timing checked, worth the money 100%.

  13. A couple of 2h oil change tips.
Always block the rocker cover breather & have the dip stick out when filling with oil. If you fill the rocker cover oil runs into the inlet manifold & oil runs into four & five cylinders. It’s worse when the engine is a bit clagged as it takes a while to get the oil to the bottom. As for the blow but. I wouldn’t to much about it. The compression in the engine seems good because it starts easily. Remember a diesel is compression ignition. No comp No bang. My moneys on you’ve got a bit of oil in the manifold which caused the smoke.

  14. If it's cold it will smoke. If to little air(filter blocked) it will run rich, don't run a diesel rich rather run it lean…

As was said do a flush (even a few times) change the thermostat (if it runs cold it will smoke).

Keep a check on the oil and coolant, drive it across Australia only then will it run good, these diesel Toyota's don't like short trips but rather long cruising trips on the dirt.

  15. She needs a rebuild mate the problem with blow by past the rings it builds up pressure in the engine so you will get more oil leaks through the seals ie from and rear main seals
You could do a inchassi rebuild doing a Hone and rings
You could see the carbon build up in the tappet cover ie muck lucky you’re mate is a mechanic cheers

  16. I’ve got a few cruisers with 2h engines. 1 has near no blow by and 2 have a lot more blow by then your beast. That blow by is nothing and I wouldn’t worry. Though I did see a little ring smoke when you were driving but that’s probably from sitting so long. Give it a couple thousand Kay’s and it may come good. Either way it’ll still go for years to come. Go the old 2h👌

  17. Smoke might clear up as the rings clean the bores and bed in again after years of sitting around and also as the old gummed up oil washes the oil control rings clean again 😄

A mechanic mate of mine uses a trick for glazed bores by holding the engine wide open at high rpm and sprinkling Ajax down the inlet 😂 sounds savage but this is when the alternative is engine removal and liner/ piston replacement anyway…. it works though 🤷‍♂️😂

"Not a mechanical or professional" so take my comment as you will 👍😂😂😂

  18. Yea so my 2H 1985 75 series had about the same amount of blow by and basically got the rings seals and valves redone and yea basically went away and ran better in general but really enjoying the series
