  1. I'm biased, but I think you should look at the Formosa 41s. Also called Ta Chiao CT-41 or the Sea Wolf 41, all the same hull design and all are Ketches but with slightly different cabin layouts and engine options. Great blue water boats, but heavy and slow compared to most modern boats, but you'll be dry and comfortable the entire time. The biggest downside is they have teak decks, which can of course leak.

  2. You follow your best instincts and your best priorities…Nothing worse than finding yourself 'hostage' to the environment that you find yourself in. 30K is only a good investment if the (very limited) Wharram market stays niche and riche… The right decision has been made.

  3. I've got a Prout 33CS in North Carolina if your interested. My plan is to do a bit of a refit but having followed your adventures it would be awesome see you on a smaller cat traveling!

  4. So it would have cost you the 100k at least before it left the place where it was. It is obvious that the reason the present owner was giving up was not the boat but rather the place it was staying. I wonder how many other parts are partly owned by someone else or rent overdue or whatever. It would be ok for someone with land there (or a friend with land) by the ocean and a tow boat they could move the whole works out before the locals knew it was gone. It is obvious the locals consider it a money source ready to be milked.

  5. ive got a buddy in Punta Gorda who I'm sure you could stay with…I might come visit…he just went to the hurricane graveyard the other day…

  6. The best advice I was ever given – by a music arranger as it happens – was to never fall in love with what you have written. You will not see the faults or bits that don't work, and even if you do, you won't care. Since then I've extended that advice to 'don't fall in love with (insert here)' for the same reasons. It has saved me from some major mistakes.

  7. I wish I knew you were coming to Swansea before hand I would have liked to have met you, I live 5 minutes away from the marina

  8. Mark I feel for you my man, but I think it was a good decision. Get yourself a monohull that you were happy with for what you offered you can get an excellent blue water cruiser. For some reason you are obsessed with the cats. Monohulls are cheaper especially me when paying for moorings and will keep you safe in all weathers. Yes when you can retire from your YouTube earnings 100 years from now you can think of such boats. In the meantime watch your first videos and how much you loved your monohull plus how happy you were. You did the right thing this time stepping back . Believe me you will with patience and real analytical thinking get the right boat for you. The heart is a wonderful thing but can often lead you to making big mistakes. Everyone is behind you. Good luck

  9. Been following your channel since the start, i don't know where you got the info about bringing a dog into the states being difficult, but its not the case, primarily cause we have rabbis in this country and that's the biggest problem with country's like new zealand that don't, cross the border from mexico, canada no problem. there's a place just north called napa and a Hugh storage boat yard with much multi hulls just sitting there along with mono,s, they have a web site with boats for sale.[Napa Marina,California]

  10. There are four Wharrams, two bigger, two smaller, at Monnickendam, Netherlands, next to "De Zeilhoek" in a more shallow bay. At least they were there when I was there in summer 2022. They looked as if they weren't in use, like they need some renovation, but not in too bad shape. You can actually see them in GoogleMaps satellite view and Bing maps…

  11. Think of it as not a possible regret but as a choice. Making choices is what life is about and how we learn. A choice now that you have made is to be with Yoshi. He came into your life for a reason, he won't be with you forever, so enjoy him now. He isn't just a dog, he is a companion, a friend, a mate. You will find out that when he is gone he has touched you in such a way no human can. You are young, there will be other wharrams. Buy a "local"mono hull, sail the world, take Yoshi. On your travels you will find that cat, buy it, live off your present boat and fix your dream boat. It all sounds romantic to buy a boat in a foreign country, but the logistics are against you. The time, money and aggravation spent on old boats unless they are for free but even then, your money and time and psychological and physical health and safety can be found in a better boat, costing as much or less than the boat project you plan to buy in a not so good part of the world.

  12. I just finished rewatching your first search for a sailboat. From the beginning your videos are great. You had such a good process of searching back then and it served you well. I would go back locally and walk the docks & boat yards looking for that diamond in the dust. You are going to find a great boat. Thank you for allowing us to tag along while you take this journey. It is a great adventure. ♡

  13. Can you do a video why your dream boat is a Cat that is uncomfortable, has two masts and is known for not tacking or sailing close to the wind very well is your dream boat. Everyone has their own dreams but many of us viewers can't figure this out. Cheers

  14. Congrats for this decision. And your reasoning about the dog made you go up several steps in my respect scale 👍

  15. I never felt like you were leading us on. I haven't hunted for a boat, but I have hunted for houses and sometimes, even though I was enthusiastic, it just didn't work out. You should be enthusiastic, especially about a boat that you have been dreaming about. I really respect that you let reality guide you in the end.

  16. absolutely the right decision!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Smart decision, was hoping you'd pass this one by. In all honesty, the whole situation looked like a nightmare (didn't want to comment my true opinion not to hurt your feelings about this boat). Not necessarily the boat itself but everything involved to get it completed. This project requires multiple experienced people to work on it continuously and have it finished in a an appreciable time. Better someone else to so it. Hope you find another dream boat much closer to home!

  18. Best decision mate, don’t stretch your budget as there will always be more ongoing expenses. Keep 20% of you budget back for these expenses.
Don’t rush something will come up, best of luck. 👍⛵️
Maybe talk to Andy about Melody

  19. Tartan 41 is a bloody good boat mate! But there is no such thing as a free or cheap boat, they are going to need work! / money!

  20. Have you seen the colvic Watson 34 for sale in Pembrokeshire on Apollo Duck? I love these boats. Might not be your thing but someone has done an immense amount of work on the interior and it comes with a HUGE list of components still yet to install. High quality build that needs finishing off.

  21. Odd reasons , but the right result. That "boat" was a nightmare, a money pit and a project you could never finish. The best thing someone could do with it, is take it out and sink it.

  22. Two great decisions 1. the Wharram would have been a huge expensive project, with ongoing expenses.
    2. A really great decision – the Freedom 35, great boat, easy to sail, minor issue with close hauled reaching. Just make sure you check out all the through hulls and through decks without delay if you actually end up buying the Freedom. Some Freedom owners have changed the wishbone booms to "normal" booms due to reefing issues – I would say use it first and see how you go with reefing the wishbones.

  23. You're doing a great job, your process of thinking everything out is smart and you've got that fur baby to worry about so just press on you're doing great

  24. Good decision. An d remember, just because you see boats listed for sale at say $150K, that certainly doesn't mean that is what they will finally sell for, and there is no certainty of future value of the boats. Lastly, never ever look back, always looks forward remembering the lessons learned from the past.
