Ne oprim în Port Jefferson să ne luăm rămas bun de la barca noastră AB și să urăm bun venit noului nostru Highfield 360 cu motorul Yamaha f25hp. Este un lucru frumos. Emoția vine pe măsură ce ne apropiem de Podul Roosevelt Island din partea de est a East River. ONU era în sesiune, așa că ni s-a interzis să navigăm pe partea de vest, pe partea fără pod. Am fost instruiți să sunăm la radio cu 30 de minute înainte de a ajunge acolo. Dar nimeni nu răspundea. Apel radio după apel radio, apel după apel telefonic! Curentul de 5,5 noduri ne împinge cu viteză record spre un pod care nu se deschidea! Urmăriți pentru a afla ce se întâmplă. Pe parcurs, Adrienne ia COVID, prietenul nostru Glen ne face o vizită și navigăm pe sub toate podurile de la Hell’s Gate la Brooklyn în timp ce începem să ne îndreptăm spre Annapolis. We are very interested in learning more about your experience with the new FCT console dinghy versus the previous. We are currently trying to decide between the two ourselves. We are wondering if the FCT model will be too heavy for beaching but know that it will be much more comfortable.

That was definitely tense. I know of several boats that have been dismasted on that bridge. "So fix it!" Loved that comment. It's a $200 radio and essential to the bridge tender's mission…. what's so difficult about replacing it? Toss and get another!
Those are my home waters. Can't tell you how many times we anchored in Mattatuck and walked down Love Lane into town, and Port Jeff is another familiar stop. Enjoyed this one, as always!
I’ve never been a bridge operator so I don’t truly understand their routines and demands on their time. However, it seems like they would be able to pick up the damn phone when someone calls them. Radio issues happen but nothing is more frustrating than calling the Bridges phone number repeatedly without having them answer while you are going with the current towards their bridge!
