Maybe instead of islands it could be wrecked military ships like frigates and an aircraft carrier that can only be accessed by boat. It may be to have more of a challenge the zombies that are on the boat are all like special zombies That have more Health/do more damage etc.

Much like Houses and stuff imagine Custom Boats…. Ones you can make as large as you want. Veritable Floating city Fortresses with working engines that allow it to be moved. Water born Combat on the backs of attack boats using a mod that allows standing on moving vehicles without falling off, like the Gunner seat in that one Dayz helicopter mod, and the ability to fast rope out of helicopters onto things… Pretty damn cool if they did that….

yes, it really should have boats added to the official game etc like rafts and whatnot. Me personally, I have ALWAYS thought if dayz and the forest merged, amazing. Also think it would be cool to have under ground caves that you could swim to from a random pond or something and it opens up to a cool dark underground place where you could base. Just random hidden places like that to make it even more fun for players.
Or you could just start playing Scum instead of Day Z. They got boats, planes and cars. Superior in every way vs Day Z. Puppets are way scarier then zeds.

Those rafts are a disaster to sail, I kept getting thrown off due to lag. But the boats looked really steady. I need one !
