  1. Next week's topic is about anxiety. Specifically about anxiety we've been through and the anxieties that cruisers experience. Do you have a question, opinion or observation on this subject? We'd love to hear from you right now so that we can discuss your comment in the podcast. Peace and fair winds!

  2. I've given up watching most YT sailing channels because I've come to the conclusion that they are about making YT videos and not providing an insight into actual sailing and cruising.

  3. So much I can identify with. I've just solo sailed across the Atlantic and needed all my instruments on, including an old analogue RADAR 24/7 to warn me of nearby vessels, not that there were any. This really challenged the solar especially in the rolly conditions where half the time the panels were pointing away from the sun and when they were pointing at the sun the poor MPPT controllers didn't have time to ramp up power. So I too have a portable generator. All afternoon no water came into the cockpit. So I set up the generator and within five minutes a wave came in and swamped and killed the generator. Luckily I had it tethered so I didn't lose it overboard and after a strip down, wipe down and liberal spray with WD40 it started up and worked again.

  4. Drinking rainwater, that truly will depend on the air quality where you are at the time. If it is high in pollutants in the air then the rainwater will be dirty. If you are at sea and it gets salt spray mixed in then it needs to go through the water maker. Some areas it is perfectly clean for drinking.

  5. What you need is an electrical generator that you plug into a socket on your boat which in turn charges your (boat) bank batteries 🤔… very quiet!…😊.
You’re both looking very well and happy though on your salvaged water!… thanks for the update. Stay safe and fair winds.

  6. Great to see you guys come back with the podcasts! I always look forward to them.

As for the discussion on anxiety at the end, I think the pandemic has been incredibly divisive between people which has overall contributed to the rise in mental health issues. Issues that previously were an agree to disagree situation between people became incredibly divisive and caused a lot of falling out between people which contributes to a lack of community. Combine that with isolation, external factors such as inflation etc and mental health becomes a massive issue. As for anxiety specifically, I think one of the biggest issues is that the line of things you can control and the things you can’t has become blurred so people are worrying and becoming anxious more and more about things that are completely out of their control and they have no say over.

Great to see you guys come back to the podcast! I love the audio only version (I usually listen on Spotify!) as I can do other things while listening.

  7. Welcome back we do enjoy your podcast. We are seasonal sailors living in Canada and at times can not wait for spring. I believe there is always some type of anxiety in sailing or any other out door activity that you decide to undertake and that can be a good thing. Anxiety can either be challenging, stressful, frustrating or just thrilling it depends on the individuals tolerance and ability. Peace and fair winds!

  8. Uggg. Love these podcasts but this one is hard to watch. @6:14 The screen behind you together with the moving water is causing some weird type of "anti-aliasing " (not sure that's the correct word). Like when a TV host wears herringbone, thin stripes, and small checks, which cause a type of on screen vibrating. Makes me nauseous.

  9. Really great speaking voices I must say. So much better than watching the skin flicks on other sailing channels. You have so much depth to your videos. Not sure what your background is but you really could be some type of radio hosts.

  10. YT shorts? – I can't stand them. Those of us who watch on computer cannot stop them if we're subscribed to a channel for regular episodes. Since most creators paste a small piece out of an episode to make their short they're a duplicate and a waste for the regular viewer. Yes, I could just skip over them but when YT periodically pushes the creators to publish them they flood my subscriptions, as has happened in the past couple of weeks. If, as Liz says, "they are here to stay" I hope we get a way to opt out of them completely. It's a shame that YT wants to force a new format on everybody that is not well suited to this content. Does it really make sense to watch sailing in portrait mode?
Don't take the above as personal criticism, it's YT that is trying my patience. I do enjoy your content and have been subscribed since the big refit with no plans to unsubscribe. Maybe my thoughts will help explain some of the frustration felt by other viewers with the shorts. Thanks for the time and effort you put into producing quality audio and video, it doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated.

  11. My only regret with your channel is that I subscribed post India…and that would have been a treat to see through your eyes. It may have happened but no sailing channel I am aware of has done it. Much like the coast south of Brazil towards Patagonia. (there is one boat now in Uruguay that is planning to round the Cape…good luck to them..) For us stick-at-homes, these are great vids to the less visited parts.

  12. You've made me very happy. I have missed the video podcasts so very much. I can so easily loose myself in them. Anxiety seems to be a little bit of an epidemic. It effects me constantly, complete with a few panic attacks that honestly seem ridiculous, even to myself after the fact. I certainly can't explain myself to even the few people I will talk about it with. Now! Add to it your situation, nothing being certain, constantly working to comply with various governments, keeping up maintenance, keeping yourself fed….. Lets not forget having been trapped in one place "for how long again?" during lockdown. It's a little surprising that the two of you still have your first knuckles, much less fingernails. Anyway! Thanks again for starting the podcasts again. I appreciate the distraction. 😎

  13. How long are you on Gili Gede for? I'll be in Bali from the 8th March, if your still there I'll try popping over to say hi, yes GG is a lovely spot. I've bought a small parcel of land walking distance from the Marina with a view over the bay. Btw, your choice of music in your videos is perfect.

  14. Glad to see you back! I agree with Jamie, I hate "shorts". The blurred areas on both sides are very distracting….why not just black them out? Looking forward to seeing you Sunday on your regular channel.

  15. Glad the podcasts are back! TMI… Too much information. We used to have one or two paragraphs written in a few outdated books about a place we were going. Now we have continuous access to information, images, and opinions from endless sources in an instant. We used to cross an ocean with minimal weather information at the start and one decent fix a day throughout the journey. Now we can secure constant reassurance by obtaining updates as frequently as we'd like. We used to say "We'll deal with it as it comes" or "We'll cross that bridge when we get there". Now, there is no excuse for poor planning and preparation because information on virtually every eventuality or minute detail is readily available to those who take the time to find them. If ignorance is bliss, I wonder if the information firehose is more than our brains can cope with at times.
