My parents have starlink at their house and they had the same problem and same customer service experience. This seems like a design flaw and the cable should be replaced under warranty!
can't you just hear the drooling lawyers?
where are the dishes manufactured?
After suffering through years of poor satellite services while living in remote northern British Columbia, Canada Starlink has been a game changer. I haven’t had the need to deal with their customer service yet as our system has performed flawlessly for a year now. I’m hoping these issues Im hearing about do get dealt with in the near future and the technology and service improves. Love your channel and appreciate your sharing this issue with Starlink.
You gunna do some sailing anytime soon? Or are you just busy surfing? (Surfing the internet that is lol!)
I sold my Starlink to a friend, for his remote cabin. I wont get another. Customer assistance is almost nonexistent.
per NASA-STD-8739.3.pdf SOLDERED ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS standards basically you should just ziptie that wire to the post. It's the bending stress that causes those connections to have issues. Per the document: solder or wire is not a mechanical bond… ie you must have secondary connection if there is any mechanical stress on the connection
Awesome job. Was about to get starlink . i think ill wait awhile. Keep up the great content. Love the boat by the way !
You are a Bold Wizard. Necessity is the mother of invention or disaster. Good Job. Starlink only says it works on land. There is an email scam where when you open your cell phone it asks you to enter your password for email. Your email is working fine and the request to enter your password is an attempt at a hack. I was annoyed to see this every time so I took the bait. My email immediately filled up with spam. Waiting to see what else was impacted. I have several cell phones and they are all scrambled eggs .
This is supposed to be strong enough for rural africa….. that was his sales pitch!
Isn't starlink RV is for a RV and not for a boat where there is saltwater. How can u complain when you are using it wrongly to get a cheaper internet?
very typical behaviour for a elon company
Thanks a lot for this…I'm considering Starlink, but…er… is the Starlink system only AC current? Do you need an inverter, or is there a DC version? From the Starlink ads it looks like only AC power. Sorry to have to ask, but any advice welcome.
well done, should not be proprietary connector when just Ethernet…
thanks
Wow, what a great Home improvment, I would have never be able to make that repair.
👍
Seems like a pretty easy fix for an excellent product. Will buy.
Chinese customer support is better than American customer support in my experience. Far too many US companies hide behind website contact emails where you can't connect to a human.
They cut corners in support staff numbers so they save money on wages to increase profit margins and pay out bigger amounts in dividends.
The amount of US companies who direct you to a community support forum is also off the scale. It's a shoddy business practice that smacks of people only interested in relieving you of your money and if you have issues later, too bad, we've got your money.
You should look at Everlanders you tube video on how he improved the starlink antenna and also reduced the power consumption.
Maybe unplugging it regularly to bring it inside wore the plug out. You could try permanently mounting it and add a cover to protect it when it's not in use.
Oy!! That splicing won't work for long and well. Please get some crimps. I'm happy you've put shrink wrap at least.
Nice job though
Great video, no one can fix a problem if they don't know it exists. Well, with this video on YouTube, Starlink, DEFINATELY, knows it exists. Well done as usual, good job. Well Done. Cheers from Oz. Follow the Yellow Brick Road, lol. Just watch out for the Wicked Witch. Have Fun.
Proprietary shite benefits nobody
If you crimp Ethernet RJ45 connectors, make sure they're GROUNDED (have a metal housing that you connect the ground wire to). If you use an RJ45 to RJ45 coupler, make sure it's grounded too (metal female receptacle that's electrically connected to the metal female connector on the other side). I've found many RJ45 connectors and couplers won't work. Also Starlink is way out of spec WRT how much power is being delivered over PoE, which is the ultimate source of this problem. Wiring a separate, non-PoE 48V power supply directly to the dish may be a solution. I haven't seen anyone try that yet…
I strongly suggest soldering the wires because very quickly will get oxidised and will not pass properly power and data. Also use the heatshrink with hot glue insulation inside.
You're an early adopter – don't expect starlink licking your ass as long as it is getting ramped up. You always have to option to use sat-phone if you think that is better value for money
