1. I think what you are seeing with the afterglow when you turn off the LED lamp is the decaying light output from the phosphors used to produce the white light from the actual blue light of the LED itself. White LEDs work a bit like fluorescent tubes – it is the phosphors that are excited by blue light to produce the white light you see. When you turn off the current, the phosphors continue to glow for a short time, giving the "afterglow". If your LED lamps glow faintly all the time when unpowered, that's a different thing – possibly something to do with capacitive leakage with an AC supply.

  2. Dear Sailing fibre glass Melody family.
👍👌👏 Congrats for having completed the first long trip successfully. Additionally congrats for having even done some important improvements and repairs. 2) I'm nevertheless eagerly looking forward to watch videos about completing the steel Melody. I definitely like this sturdy 3 keeler boat very much.
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards, luck and health in particular. To all of you of course.

  3. Hi guys. Well done with your progress so far 😉 Looking forward to seeing you restore her further 😉

I just tried to follow your progress on Marine Traffic, but this morning it just shows an ‘Ocean Melody’ in the Dart Marina that hasn’t updated position in over 21 days.

Are you turned off for some reason ?

    Cheers

    Ray

  4. Paper charts I'm afraid are not being updated universally anymore. Whilst electronic charts have got folks into trouble – there's nothing assured about any chart. I carry paper charts too, in case I need to do some simple navigation with no instruments, and to plot progress on a long passage, but its no longer correct to think that paper is proper and electronic is not as the opposite is becoming true!

  5. Takes me back to a night sail we did in our Moody 346 to Milford from Padstow. The pod of dolphins must be the same or their grandchildren. Magical arrival in Dale with the Haven lit up like Vegas. Enjoy.

  6. andy when you use any of your music in the vids, would you run a little text onscreen so we can become familiar with the tracks and composition? That'd be fun if you can find the time, as well, consider tossing some of jacks drawings in for scene transition graphics? anyhow, a couple thoughts.. thanks for everything, you guys have hit the sweet spot of technical tradework, i know yer bringing some navigation and sailhandling, but also y'all bring the family vibe, and sorry, but thank god its not a pile of two year olds'. Sorry Jack, Dont mean to objectify you- , nor Melissa! M- very excited for the baby. anyhow y'all are meeting the sweet spot for awesome sailing lifestyle channels for me!! Cheers from Portland, Oregon!

  7. Gosh ! Young Jack will not be to long before he gets accreditation as a SV Captain. His knowledge is astounding with his challenges…..Magic young fella.
I'd be happy to serve under his guidance. Heck!, even my rubber ducky drowns in the bath.

  8. What a great video full of everything and so interesting to. Loved the Dolphins and things seem to be working well and coming together nicely. So pleased for you all. Keep well and safe. James.

  9. Fixing conveniences: water, led lights, aft loo. Rushing to get home before the weather prohibits sailing. Simultaneously testing and evluating the boat.

  10. Good video – its also good to know that you are a Brad Paisley fan, I really enjoy C&W. After George Strait and garth Brooks comes Brad Paisley – brilliant singer.

  11. I always try to find the spots where you are on google maps but couldn't find the destination until I did a search with google .. wow, that's a big stretch you did and only sailing I believe.. also a big gap to take in open water, after the first 2 stretches you really trust the boat now 🙂 It sailing great, you also had a lot of help on this trip, it sure will be a fine boat to take the big journey on ..

  12. A few years ago did the reverse trip. Milford Haven to Isles of Scillies. Had pods of Dolphins follow us along too. In Milford Haven had breakfast on the cafe in the marina!! Must be such a great feeling to be so close to home with your new vessel.

  13. Been watching you guys for a while and am so happy for you! We just acquired an old Hinckley Pilot and will be using some of your great tips to give her some new life. Cheers from James and the rest of the crew of Firefly!

  14. Hi there little seagoing family! I have an observation to make so here goes; you are so obviously happy and at home on the new boat which raises the question of what is to be done with Melody1? It looks to me like you're going to be fully snowed under upgrading Melody 2 for quite some time so do you think that you'll need Melody1 as a worry overhanging your lives? How about doing just the minimum necessary to get Melody 1 to a saleable state so as to be totally committed to M2? Hopefully you should still be able to realise a reasonable profit from M1. I think 'adventure' may be the accurate term for M1 since you have all learnt from the experience. You could view it as Melody's gift to you in return for your gift to her by saving her from an ignominious fate. I'm sure that she will get to cleave the waves again after she finds a good home with someone better suited to HER needs as well! 🤩

That's just my conception of the current situation FWIW!
Spring is just over the horizon! Oh to be in England…..
