  1. So many logs! And whole tree stumps, the size of growlers. OMG! Frankly, this is one of the reasons we chose a Garcia, with the strong bow, strong hull, double rudders and protected propeller. Did you end up hitting any? I guess it's inevitable when there's so many. Thanks for the video.

  2. I live in the Sunshine Coast Queensland Oz. Sometime long for the cold. Ive been watching you and your partner fro years. This episode was majestic Thanks You.

  3. I'm admir your efforts to get you to where you are now. Your surroundings look beautiful. Being there must feel magical. I am really looking forward to seeing you two on your adventures and with a little bit of dreaming, I can imagine myself being there too. Thank you, and good luck.

  4. Thank you so much for taking us on your exciting and different adventure up north, when most others stay on land or closer to the equator.

  5. Your the ones that want to sail into the ice. Not my choice. Personally I like your channel but I also think your crazy. Your doing the unthinkable. You should have turned south when you left San Francisco.

  6. Interesting to see the Standard Oil sign on that building. They were forced to give up their monopoly and Esso, Shell and other small companies were formed. Seems they still have a monopoly!

  7. Youll have to liven up your videos which in the circumstances is not so easy….assuming you want more subbies.

How about Sohvi running through the forest being chased by an early emergent bear (hopefully youve got bear spray…..a heroic rescue by a Rastafarian Finn Kaptain could make the Scandinavian television!!!.

Try to make the crew more cheerful….although it doesnt come naturally to Finns (try laughing gas which could have a short term benefit!)

  8. Thanks for a beautiful video I have heard many stories of boats being holed by drift wood in the Johnson Straights good sailing I liked the poem very fitting. stay safe and enjoy adventure. well done 💚✌☘👍

  9. I don't understand why you could not find any information about the indigenous history of where Sointula is located. There are lots of indigenous people living around there, and they are politically and economically some of the most powerful indigenous families in Canada – such as the former Minister of Justice of Canada, Jody Wilson-Raybauld. There are indigenous tourism companies, indigenous guide books etc… and you know Franz Boaz based his development of the field of anthropology upon his research of the people living here. Sadly your research is haphazard. What's the Russian expression? "galloping across Europe"

  10. You're on deep inside waters and it can be very calm– the forecasts you call a hoax are most likely for outside waters. Obviously, you can never take the currents in Johnstone Straight, especially at it's mouth at Seymour Narrows for granted–especially during spring tides. Timing, as you say, is everything. Smooth sailing to you–B.C. is the most beautiful part of the voyage north.

  11. Not that it matters much but ……Masefield's poem last line is incorrect. It should be: "after the long trick's over" (not trip's over) meaning that after your watch period is over. Lovely video and so beautiful a place, almost hauntingly so. I admire very much what you are doing and the skill you have displayed in getting the boat ship-shape.

  12. Looks like a great winter cruising ground if u have a wood burning stove on board although I heard that the salt in the driftwood can damage the flue/stove, anybody know if this is a fact? Thanks and I’d love to have somebody knitting a hat for me, your sister looks very cute! SkipRay, Kerry, Ireland.

  13. Very high quality filming – and good comments…. Followed R2AK 3 times so I feel I know this part of the coast – was in Vancouver once with a merchant ship…

  14. This video is amazing. Stunning scenery and editing. Thank you so much for allowing us to come along on your journey. It is so nice to escape and I wish so much I could experience a sliver of solitude and peace.

  15. Hi Sorry to bother you about this old, old stuff. I've started at your beginning as your "up to date" ones are always leaving wanting more. I have a difficult time to find your friend Hiro's documentary of the adventure from Norway (Lofoten?) to Svalbard. Skiing and all isn't my jam, but I enjoy your outings even so. What I wanted to see more of was your animal encounters and the research work as well.

I hope that you are all well out there somewhere around Alaska by now. Your travels through the channel in Canada (I believe) was among the most beautiful places I've ever seen, and my family sailed Höga Kusten and Sankt Annas Skärgård and more when I was a kid..
I do know about the timbers too, as they were plentiful in and around Kvarken all the way down to south of Höga Kusten. (Sorry everybody. These places are in the archipelagoes in Sweden, and to some small extent Finland.) Our boat was mahogany, and as the oldest non commissioned child, I've been on many a timber watch in my time.
I love your human pace. Even your tutorials on how to install drip burn heaters(?) and fixing engines are lovely because of the slow pace and quiet expertise. My best to Sohvi and your knitting friend. You might have to be Scandinavian to understand that knitting warm socks during a passage is so very normal (but I hope I'm wrong). Both my mother, myself and my sister have done that many a time. Yours, Ann

  16. I love your style of videos and sailing. Do you ever take on crew? I’d love to sail with you on one leg of your trip. So beautiful and peaceful. Thank you!

  17. Sovis unimpressed face with your rejection of excercise in favour of chocolate , lost me a mouth full of tea. For the record, chocolate for the win!

  18. I've read all the comments posted by others, I can't add anything as they have quite rightly used every superlative in the English language.

  19. I love your enjoyment of winter sailing in british columbia. I have sailed bc for 50 years. Some of the best times are winter when the summer sailors are in Vancouver and Seattle.
So nice to watch your videos. Sorry we had a little but much snow this year but some years we have some ice in the fjords.
    Good travels

  20. Thanks for sailing up the way you are going we are heading off from Australia this year and heading off that way and you are showing us what we will be in for .

  21. You did a First Rate job on refitting Lumi ! Such a beautiful sailing vessel, especially surrounded by the immense beauty of Alaska! Sincere thanks.
