Some viewers have already pointed out that:
– "battleship" is a modern term not applicable to old ships like this.
– The boat is a "Pinnace", not pinnacle
– Proper old English terms like fo'c'sle (forecastle), which we are aware of but which I omitted in the final script.
– The Grand Magazine had light rooms nearby as well, like the hanging magazines. That is, they had separate rooms with lanterns behind glass for protection.
– Apparently the yard isn't in the correct spot when hoisted, but I'll be damned if I could find info on just how that should have been situated when I was animating it!
– The audio isn't the greatest. I know. I was being lazy, and I'll do better next time and give myself the proper time to get it right. I just dislike that part of the project. I've got a proper setup though, it's not my gear. Classic.
I took the complexity of these ships as an unknown given for most of my life. That ignorant state came to an end when I read Six Frigates by Ian Toll. (Highly recommended) My complements on this video! It is brilliantly conceived and executed.
1st class…thankyou for sharing
I have researched ships of these times for hours and days, and there was still things that this video helped me improve my understanding. It's hard enough to draw one, I can't imagine how much work modeling must have taken. Amazing work!
Love this! Thank you.
Mind blowing on so many levels. Incredible animation that for the first time I've seen, allows some understanding of this truly magnificent machine. Impressed to the maximum by this story and your depiction. Thank you!
Mizzen, Jibs, Spanker… There's so much to wrap your head around here.
Not a bad effort, but your Americanisms and pronunciation made me cringe ! It's a British ship, for God's sake, so the narration should be in English, not American ! I am old enough (70's)to remember when one would be failed in High School for using American terms in English grammar lessons ( such as cannons for cannon ).
" Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volleyed and thundered "
from The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred, Lord Tennyson; referring to the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War, 25 October 1854 (“plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose “)
However the 3 Dimensional effects seemed rather good, apart from a couple of little hiccoughs mentioned by others below (Animagaffes?) Overall; well done !👍
Great video! Thank you!
Stunning! Worth the 25 mins from beginning till the end!
Ah the good old La poop
we like to think we are smart today and all high tech but when you take everything into account we don't come close to smart or as high tech as they were and think of the amount of training to carry out maneuvers in split second timing just mind blowing
Amazing thank you so much.

And this is how and why Europeans rule the world
Brilliant animation. Thanks 👍
So informative and well explained!
The best I have ever seen. I remember marveling at exploded view drawings about this…your 3D visuals are so cleanly descriptive, and your research very impressive. Outstanding work.
Bravo, man that was so damn good. You done a helluva job. I've been needn this for a good minute. And I can think of a list of other subjects that I would like to see been done the way you have done this.
It's amazing what can be built with wood and rope.
Impressive. What a work must have gone into building one of these ships, and handling it as well.
Incredible, thanks for making this animagraff
I’ve been looking for such a clear and elegantly illustrated explanation for quite some time. We’ll done.
Absolutely amazing animation and quite interesting! However i wouyld´ve liked to be taught in more detail about the crews command structure, tasks and responsibilities. Thank you anyway and excessively for this fantastic video!
Good morning
Excellent work, congratulations, thank you very much.
Compliments.
la poupe
This is awesome
That’s neat that they use leathers for bilge pumps. That’s what we use for suction in windmills on water wells on ranches.
imagine if the Vikings had these type ships
Thank you!
Excelent work friend, well done!
This is the best video about the Ship of the line i've ever seen. OMG! Its sooooo intuitive. Thank you so much for these information ❤❤❤
I like how even the Captain has to sleep next to a bunch of cannons. Truly built for war.
