1. The Discovery of the Amazon: According to the Account of Friar Gaspar De Carvajal and Other Documents- This is Carvajal’s Journal and supporting primary sources. It is an english version. Every version online is Spanish. It is so fascinating to hear it in his own words. There are a ton of fun maps too.
2. River of Darkness by Buddy Levy- Levy tells the story in a really enjoyable fun way.
