16. There needs to be something said about very heavy boats in regards to 'safety' and groundings especially. The fact that they are heavy means the carry a huge amount of momentum into a collision, and therefore would need to be appropriately thicker. It is never as simple as saying steel is better. Of course, as a boat gets bigger steel seems more appropriate. If a steel boat and a glass boat of equal weight and size run aground at the same speed, id rather the steel boat. But, if the steel boat is considerably heavier then it isn't so simple, as the glass one could theoretically fair better. Aluminium boats are generally lighter/volume than steel, but not as strong (''). I love the fact that stuff can be simply welded on deck, rather than have hole drilled for chainplate etc etc. This seems like a safety feature also..
