Trecând linia de sosire a strămoșului Vendée Globe în Les Sables d’Olonne joi, la 21:43:47 CET, marinarul sud-african a obținut una dintre cele mai mari realizări în cursele oceanice. Câștigătoare a cursei Globului de Aur, fără asistență sau tehnologie, după 235 de zile, 5 ore, 44 minute și 4 secunde de cursă (ora finală va fi stabilită după calculul penalităților pentru utilizarea combustibilului și bonusurilor), Kirsten a devenit prima femeie care câștigă o cursă individuală în jurul lumii sub vele.
