Did they find the cocaine?
Why hasn't the DNR removed the boat in Hawaii? Because of the provision that says 'the owner will be held responsible for any and all costs associated with the removal and damage to the environment'. The longer the boat sits there, the more those costs go up, at whatever rate the DNR wants them to, since they certainly aren't going to give itemized costs, just an overall bill. The whole point is to bankrupt boat owners that have the gall to think they can use a boat near the coast of the islands.
The Americans probably want Antigua to hand the yacht over to them so they can profit from it's sale. The US government loves to abuse it's power.
Unfortunately, there is no road access for a full-size semi flatbed tractor trailer rig to that park. The new Maui boat salvage company didn't work this out before they allowed the owner to take control of the salvage operations. Once he stopped paying them & they realized that he didn't know what he was doing, it was too late. If you are salvaging a boat that isn't yours, never let the owner be directly involved. Have the owner sign a salvage contract & have them step away.
Thanks for the update
Any delays in removing the sanctions from the boat result in additional costs for the Antiguan gov. These costs should be borne by the US gov. If the US gov continue to delay then the Antiguan gov should start seizing and selling US-owned property on the island to settle the bills relating to the boat.
Hawaii: multiculturalism at work
It is called bureaucracy ie too many sous chefs in the kitchen and no Chef.
While I certainly don't want to slander the Antiqia government, since I know nothing about it's workings or history, it is their clear responsibility for making this decision, and any difficulties, however unfortunate, resulting from this decision are solely their responsibility. After all , their is a war on, people are dying , and sanctions are part of the war effort, and are much more important than making money selling a yacht .
Perhaps the government should have investigated all possible effects before this decision was made, or maybe they did, and decided to do it anyway, I don't know. It would seem unusual to commit to such an unusual financial situation on a snap decision, with no forethought or planning as to possible results .
So I have to wonder if the situation effected by this decision was the result of carelessness , unexpected sanction problems unique to this boat, or a plan to avoid sanctions by washing the title through changes of ownership and payoffs. avoiding legal controls is not an unusual situation for the Russian, or any, super rich to attempt or achieve. I sailed an american ship that failed coast guard hull inspection because testing said three percent original steel (97% rust) , but was passed after some envelops changed hands. So corruption around ships is not unknown , and corruption around super rich Russians should be no great surprise.
Perhaps the American government is uncaring and slow, or perhaps they have experience with the ability of the super rich to deceive , using the corruptive power of money , when attempting to avoid sanctions. Perhaps it is possible, I don't know, in Antiqua or with the people involved , as would be common in some cultures, to paint a picture that doesn't represent who will actually gain control of this vessel once it is sold . Perhaps if it were scrapped, taken apart on site for a much lesser financial gain, there would no problems with sanctions. It would certainly stop the bleeding, solve what to do with the boat, and perhaps turn a small profit. Selling isn't the only solution, I'm sure the people involved know this.
Being fascinated by trivia a did some research on Birthing Stones. I think the Hauola Stones are not the same as the Birthing stones, but I don't actually know for sure.
Kūkaniloko Birth Site, also known as the Kūkaniloko Birthstones State Monument, is one of the most important ancient cultural sites on the island of Oʻahu.

"The Hauola Stone in Lahaina Harbor was believed to have healing qualities; it is still there."

Antigua government has dollar signs in their eyes!😮
As a 72 year old American I am thoroughly disgusted with the US Government. This Antigua story is so frigging unnecessary! I grew up in a country that was "can do, solve the problem and move on." Do we want a clearer example of what is wrong with our government? The most incompetent boobs possible. Government employees are morons that are otherwise unemployable!
Sad
One solution would be to just bill the US embassy/government for the costs, I fail to see why the US should force Antigua to cover ALL the costs simply to make themselves look superior. Not fair on the government and certainly not fair on the citizens.
1:00 What are they doing? Running the generators without any oil changes until they die?
Bureaucracy and Bureaucrats !
Esysman sounds like a rash on your groin😂
It's funny how all these sanctioned Russians like to say "Not mine" about arrested yachts, but, curiously, one would think that actual factual owner would come forward if their property was erroneously arrested, yet, we never see that. So, if "not mine", then, where's the "real" non-sanctioned owner? Oops, noone is coming forward to claim their property worth over $100 Million. hhmmmm. strange that, no?
state of hawaii builds a harbor…
tells people not to desecrate a pile of stones
they tried to make me sign a paper to not disturb stones on
a site they built a 3 story building kooks
Since we all know govt officials are corruptible, especially in smaller countries, could it be possible the US suspects Antigua officials as playing a strawman for the sanctioned Russian ?
as soon as Antigua "clues in" and offers up 50% of the sale to the Americans the paper work will be processed
I suppose she could be sold at auction, for whatever she is worth. Then the proud new owner could have her towed to a shipyard, where Chinese gensets could be installed.
Hey, ? for you… Why can't Yachts or large boat get shore power when docked? When big RV's are in a camp ground, they can usually get shore power to plug into. Is there a reason Yachts or etc. can't be able to have an large cable with an plug or several plugs to hook up for shore power to run the systems on the boat, it would be an lot cheaper than buying diesel to run generators continuously.
Ku u eee po
What utter garbage you are talking…seriously your source is lying and you are no better by making this video which is horse poo. If you think the Antigua Gov is paying the bills you are also bonkers.
Unclog those genset fuel filters.
just scrap the thing…. sell it in parts and use the vulgar amount of money its worth to help sort the homeless problem…. we don't need things like this in the world costing millions whilst impoverishing others….
"If you haven't just come out from under a rock.." WOW, do you really think the world revolves around the current news of high end yachts? That is a rather obnoxious opening.
Isn't the proceeds from the sale of these vessels going back to help rebuild ukraine?
More yaught's ran a shore… Wow..I am pretty sure that is going to get expensive. I wonder why.. are the captains not keeping the yaught under control… What is the issues involved… Thanks again
I was on Maui last week. Having traveled there many times, it is apparent that Maui is degenerating toward a third-world country. Nothing gets done in an even slightly timely manner. The streets are dirty and junk is left everywhere by the locals (not the visitors)….things like laundry appliances and derelict cars. There are houseless persons on the street panhandling the visitors. It used to be such a magical place, but is turning into a dump. Having traveled extensively in Central America on business, I indeed know what third-world conditions look like. Sad.
Once the bureaucrats get involved things go into slow motion
Everybody knows Russian oligarchs just aren't that into yachts. Never have been.
2:20 That is already stupid. The boat is arrested, just fix the f… generators.
Feds want the boat to sell.
Sad
Sorry..what has it got to do with the US Government..all the US do is roam the world sticking their noses in
If the Hawaiian State government is involved it'll be comedy gold.
I’ll mail you a Chequers for $1,500.00 just don’t cash it until I sell my 86’ Honda civic
I just checked out the boat on Maui. It’s not as nice of a vessel as the digital video and pictures look. It is tied up on its port side so if it does move it will move away from the birthing stone. Headed to see it again tomorrow before our charter begins. I’ll get some pictures.
Hawaii is inept at almost every level…
So! Voters believe the gvt should save “ rich “ people. The same wealthy trash that most gvt subsidized people tend to vote for continuations of Gvt subsidy? Seems like equity
If the recovery nation really wants it, they will pay to get it… The idea that it cannot be repaired is not a satisfying excuse….we live in a world of generators… I'm sure an engineer knows a solution to replacing it…
What right/authority does the US have to tell Antigua that they can't sell the boat? That'd be like me telling my neighbor he can't sell his car.
The US gov needs to keep their nose out of other countries business.
The boat is now being dismantled. Engines are now out and the remained will be removed tomorrow. There is a story around the delay but I’ll leave that to those more informed than myself.
Finally removing it. I tried to link a story about the removal but someone removed it
What a terrible waste of a beautiful yacht by linear thinking government.
Just saw half of this boat being hauled into the Maui county landfill!
