Detaliul distractiv despre povestea noastră este că barca pe care am cumpărat-o se scufunda și se baza pe multe pompe de santină pentru a supraviețui, așa că a trebuit să o ridicăm pe uscat pentru a începe o reparație completă. Odată ce barca a fost ridicată (pentru prima dată în viața ei) ne-am dat seama că munca necesară a fost mult mai mult decât se aștepta. Quick tip: using router to cut deep channels, especially with hard woods, 2-3 passes with the bit, not starting with the final depth.

I was just wondering, because I don’t think you guys have talked about it yet, or maybe I missed that episode. But I don’t think I’ve missed any. What sort of rating will Yabá have? Is it a true blue water boat to be sailed around the world? Or is it a going to be limited to so many miles off shore? Was just wondering if you could let us know, and also the sail plan. New sails , the rigging, and what will the wheel house and instruments look like, or what have you chosen for electronics and solar systems. I’m sure it’s all ahead, but was wondering. Thanks so much. She’s looking great.
The handle making exercise would go so much faster/safer/tidier/more consistently with the router mounted in a table – doesn’t need to be anything fancy. Gives me the heebyjeebies seeing you try to freehand small bits like that. Routing the recesses and edges first, then cutting them apart would help too. Those things take no prisoners!
I can only hope I'll never find myself spending hours of my life making drawer handles….

Enjoy your using wood recovered from the scrap pile ! Of course making the drawer handles with all those additional steps takes time but provides something unique . . . . but 'time is money' ! ! So in the end you are 'paying for it' . . . . . whatever makes you happy !

Those handles is what your swimming platform could have looked like, if you had been paying attention better.
Dear friends, you are the only boat builders using hammers and nails on a boat I have ever observed. Epoxy, glues, and water barrier compounds and screws are the normal methods for boat building. Preventing the wood from moving and preventing water from damaging the boat is normal building practice. You are not doing preventative work except paint; that is not enough! It's not a house; it's a boat on the water.

Actually i would make C-handles for the drawers, much easier to make and can be used to attach ropes to them if you need to strap something to the drawer… cant have enough places to attach ropes to on a boat! Also your handles would be easier to make if you glue "full" would stripes onto stripes that already have the C cutouts and then cut these into handles.

It will be a real trip to wander around your boat in the future and look at this and that and think "I did that, and fixed this and helped with those and learned about these." And you both will know that your boat is an intimate part of its spirit and resurrection. Literally bonding with karma and kami .
The handles are epic. Well done Ben. Yaba is looking so good. If I recall correctly, you thought that rotten hulk would take 12 months to repair. You two have hung in there for two and a half years, created maritime art, acquired a dog, learned new skills. Truly inspiring
I’m keen to learn what’s happening with the engine, generator, steering gear, navigation instruments and all the stuff that’s way more interesting than drawer handles (with all due respect). Thanks for the great videos.
