5. Just noticed a few people suggesting degreaser . A warning to all boat owners who a thinking about using flammable engine degreaser in the bilge. Don’t use it. Two months ago a bloke set fire to himself and his boat. All the cupboards were blown up. The man spent a month in hospital recovering from burns. His bilge pump came on and created a spark and the fumes from the degreaser ignited. Take care.

6. A wet vacuum cleaner had sucked out the dirty water, dish brush and floor cleaner do the rest.

10. I don’t know if a product called SIMPLE GREEN is available in the UK. It is a cleaner and degreaser. Environmentally friendly and leave somewhat of a friendly aroma after using. I use it to clean engines and engine components makes them look like new again and smell good. I believe it would work great to really clean your bilges.

14. I can recommend the Karcher wet vac, reasonably priced too. Bonus it doubles as a standard vacuum too.

15. Use a strong mix of oxalic acid and rub it in with a sponge! Then preassure wash it off! I had the same situation as you! Its now lovley and smelling nice and clean ofcourse!!👍😊

18. Hi there Andy. Being a guitarist and sailor myself I think your idea of teaching people by internet might work. Especially in the cruising community. There are so many guitars on boats. On crossings one has time to spare and setting up a connection via starlink would make that possible. Can you play your silent guitar (think it's a Yamaha) plugged in while you are on passage?

19. It looks like you could pull about 10 miles of old hose and wire out of that boat and never notice a difference. I had a Mirage 26 that was pretty much the same. 😂

Hi Andy, 1st congrats for your new baby, 2nd put the ptfe tape onto any job winding it on in the direction of the threads so when you do up the nut it doesn't try to unwind but goes with the direction of the tightening thread, and 3rd but by no means least get a big bottle of Gunk and scrub that into the c#£p in your bilge Then pressure wash it , it is brilliant.
    Keep up the good work , I'm as jealous as anything. I sail through you and your family.

    👍👌👏 Congratulations! You achieved to finish a significant amount of important work. Very impressive! Cleaning out the bilges was a lot of of work and definitely no fun. If I remember correctly, Rotterdam haven did fight oil in the water with pure orange oil extremely successfully a lot of years ago. I make my own kitchen respectively allround cleaner with orange oil since decades. So please kindly allow me to suggest that you try it out. It smells fantastic too = you get rid of the bad smell simultaneously. Please try not to use common orange oil cleaners because of too much chemical ingredients in those.
    I use orange oil from "Spinnrad", maybe you can order it from GB too?

27. Wonderful video yet again. I'm impressed with the anchor/chain attachment! Is it available on its own? (& if so is that a Mantis product as well?) Your lithium battery bank and associated sundries look a damned site better/safer than the set up does on my boat. Mine are only lead acid leisure batteries, lithium ones weren't available back when I set it up and lithium is much too expensive for now!!? ;-( Give our love to Jack, Olly and Mellisa. Can't wait for the next episode. Good luck with the ongoing work. x (The Swain family).

28. Guitar lessons? I own a serious turn key blue water cruiser and find it hard just to get any Spanish guitar practice in as boat jobs keep me occupied most of the day. Your new vessel is a massive project boat and along with your new family I seriously don’t know how you find the time for all the other stuff. I hope you don’t burn out and actually enjoy some life away from your utube life one day.

30. Nice job on the bilge, glad I couldn't smell it. Will you label all your wiring junctions and boxes for future reference? Maybe even document all relevant specs for future reference. Take it from me, as you age your memory tends to sail away…

37. Our Rival 38 deep bilge was over 1m deep under a glassed in oil drip tray. It was disgusting.
    As part of prep for our electric motor we cut out the tray (the ply underside was unprotected and oil soaked).
    As there is concern that the keel under and around our deep bilge is weak we are going to partially fill with expanding epoxy foam locked in with a treated plywood frame. Then a glassed in bilge top with sump for pumps that can be reached at full stretch.
    So even if crushed aft end of keel in a grounding we shouldn't lose the epoxy foam core and shouldn't leak.
