I watched an entire 8 lane overpass cloverleaf getting constructed using that high density foam, wild.
The new laser levels are fantastic for this work – imagine doing all this with an old water or string levels!!
Donate for a Dream
I wonder if using a propane torch, you could have heated the wire template and used that to cut the foam?
Where did you get the mat that Matt’s nearing on around 3:21? Also, I’ve been enjoying your videos for years, thank you.
keep on going!! but hurry up. I want to see that boat on the water already
If you bump the laser, you can just use a water hose and the marks you already made. 😀
How much does she weight at this stage?
👌🏻👍
Great shots of how narrow the hulls are. Can't wait to see you sailing in light breezes. A quick/easy way to make a snug fit to the hull might be putting a foam block a few mm under the hull then a large bag on the block and filling it with expanding foam,.
7000 pounds? Oh wow. It's almost as heavy as my pickup.
Laser levels have changed the world. Think of what a pain it would be to do that with a transit or a water level.
A couple of suggestions: Put in a few back site locations on the tent frame, in case the level gets moved. Watch for creep in the foam as you add weight to the boat.
It's not enough for me to have a smart woman as a companion. I'll die alone before I sleep next to a troll. Hey to each their own and I'm not calling anyone anywhere a troll I just know I'll never sleep next to one. That's why I moved to Asia. I'm 57. The oldest woman I slept next to last year was 33.
None had less than a Bachelor's and ALL had at least a C cup and NONE had a BMI over 20.
Hey just a hint to making it easier to cut foam or styrofoam….. use an electric knife that you would use to carve a turkey makes easy work for that kind of cutting ….. could probably get one at value village store for next to nothing 🤓
Peppermint oil will get rid of the spiders
That's a great idea. I wonder how well it would work for a mono-hull.
LOL! RAN SAILING is building their 50 footer Monohull…they dont have stuff everywhere! of course theyve just finished framing and are now Planking the Hull….GOOD JOB GUYS!
Do they give you CAD of the exterior surface? Could you CNC the foam supports if you wanted to?
Levelling doesn't seem like it should take long, but it takes ages. Your patience is well honed by now!
To get rid of the dust and persuade a few spiders of the prime spring opportunity of moving home, how about opening those tent doors on a windy day, hiring a leaf blower and letting it all relocate. I think you deserve the better environment.
Maybe 24" wide and long wedges would simplify your precision adjustment efforts next time?
Great Video !
Saw you on Tuia the other day. Very cool.
Maddening! But it looks like you got there in the end. Only took two days. 😛
Set yall some control points, stakes in the ground on each side of the tent that are at a specific elevation in relation to the your marks on the hull so you don't have to stress about your laser line elevation and can get it exact every time. Yall are awesome. Keep on the hard work and great videos!
where u may be screwing up is this. the hulls have to 100% match each other in levelness . 1. mark the hulls the x same distance same on both. buy a 6 inch I beam ? 3 feet wider than the boat hulls. dig a trench temporary under the boat where u marked the hulls. slide the Ibeam under the hulls. dig a center pit, line with wood 4×8 short cut planks . the pit is for the 5 ton center jack in the middle. with foam blocks to protect the hulls where the beams will touch it. use 2 levels on top of the I beam. start jacking the hulls up evenly from the middle. watching the levels that are placed on top of the i beam where you can see them. protect the side your not jacking up when it hit the ground or smashes thru the foam. ( now evenly jack the hulls up. NOW, carve the new foam hull stands…) understand…..you have TONS of more to add to the build, thousands of pounds of wiring, ect ect, do not rush now with the under boat supporting….off by 2 inch on one side to the other. the hulls will suffer… DO IT RIGHT . now, and yes you will need to dig a few ditches under the boat to slide the i beam in diff placements . note you sell the i beam when your done. steal whole seller will deliver to you. and hire day laborer to dig the ditches. and help you….many small handlie men will love to make a couple hundred bucks for a days work. make sure both hulls are level to each other no matter what.
Why aren't you using the bottle screw that is built in to your jack instead of loads of bits of wood or jacking all the way up to almost the top? It would save so much time and make life easier.
Basically why it's there
There are a few channels out there building or getting catamarans built some exciting times coming up. Especially
MJ Sailing
.
Do you know what a Hot Knife Is ?? would have saved you a ton of Time lol with the cutting of that foam. lol
@ MJS; Vermin hate the Moth balls, Ammonia odor; Available in perforated bags, leave onboard overnight… Blow out the area with fans for working… works for Skunks and squirrels as well.
It's obviously far too late to mention this, but I've seen a slightly different method to the foam blocks. They had small metal pipe frames with 2 or 3 cargo straps across the tops of them. The straps take the weight of the boat and you can adjust the level by ratcheting the straps tighter or looser.
I been following now idk even what 2 or 3 years. I can't wait to see this in the water lol
A taught wire and a car battery would’ve cut that foam quicker and cleaner.
You could’ve asked Ty if you could borrow his…

You two are in great shape so if you were wiped out I know it was a hard days work. Good job!
Great job. Very meticulous! That always pays off later. I wouldn't expect less from you two since you're not in the habit of cutting corners.
Enjoyed the music selections in this episode. Thank you.
Maybe some urethane foam would work for evening loads over coarse styrofoam (tape some plastic over hull to cover from stick to it). May help to adjust height as well
If you had set a permanent reference point before starting to level, you could come back any time in the future to check your level. ie. Drive a pipe stake in the ground and mark your laser reference line on it. That way you can recalibrate your laser any time you wish now, or in the future. You are assuming that the laser didn't move overnight because you didn't touch it. Many things can move and shift without your knowledge. Always set a permanent reference. Good luck in the build.
great work
Yachts has Ocean Certification ranging anywhere from A to D. What will be classification of your yachts? By the way what was classification of your earlier smaller yachts?
Interesting. I think you should consider measuring in micrometers instead of inches for a little more precision. But more importantly I think it’s time to take a 1 week sailing break. Consider crewing for a week with SV Delos or with Bryan and Blue – then you can just relax and have fun.
Another amazing episode, with Spring cleanup and leveling you both really out did yourselves. Truly spectacular how quickly this build is going. Can't wait for the next episode and thank you both for sharing your marvelous progress.
Black widow won't kill you but you will feel bad for about 3 days. I didn't know bones could hurt. Black widow taught me different ✌️
Jacks on cinder blocks; what could go wrong? Would have sucked to see the boat fall off a broken block. Have you thought of your plan to pull the whole thing out of the tent in the end?
I see wheels under those foam blocks at some point. Are there lifting points on the underbelly – for trailer lifts – as well?
Can you explain why, now that the boat is together, you need it to be level? I thought things needed to be level so you would assemble the hulls and the bridge deck properly, but, once those were in place and glued up, you didn't need to be so exact. Is does it have to do with installing the interior based on a level line instead of making it consistent with the hull sides?
Making lamb chops, asparagus and mashed potatoes while watching
Great job! But you should have had a couple of reference marks on some really fixed items like stones and such in case the laser was knocked out of position. But I guess the laser is self leveling and the boat would have been level anyhow just not on the same height.
Ok the video was great as usual but I sure do miss Jessica's ads with Tucker. One more anyhow, please.
When I saw Matt marking the hulls freehand (rather than using a NASA approved straight-edge), I realized that they don't really care about build quality and Matt doesn't pay attention to detail…
…said no one EVER! lol Seriously though, the freehand marking surprised me given the level of perfection that I'm used to seeing from these two. Hahaha!
I agree you jacked just the one side, and the other side came up. Pretty darn rigid!
